I liked your SFX sketches mctodd - I though they showed humour - which is indicitive of intelligence - when humour is absent it means intelligence is too - and I don't see much humour around these parts anymore...
Does it really matter what people post - it's just a bloody billboard for FU's Sake...
mods are there to protect from abuse and perversion not to nanny constantly...I grow tired of the constant regulations on this site - it's ruining it..
if you don't like a post - just read on - it's like going into whsmiths and demanding all the porno be taken off the shelf cos en route to your model boat building magazine section you couldn't help but stop off and jack one off...

"what I did say was that small independent film-makers shouldn’t make out that they’re making big blistering blockbusters when it’s clear they aren’t." Exactly. And I need to point out, since a lot of Hines supporters love to slag Speilberg and Cruise, that Hines originally wanted to do a updated version set in Seattle and switched to the period version when he found out that Paramount was planning a updated remake. Some Wells purist. hines has become almost like a mythical figure to some of his supporters, instead of the reality, a small Indie film maker who got in over his head.

He is truly mythical on so many levels.. A) he's a rumour B) no one's actually ever seen him in the flesh - there have been rumours of rumours of people who claim to have known people who claim to have spoken to him C) He inspires confusion and disarray in all that come into contact with him or the rumours of him I had more to say but I've sort of lost the desire to say it....cos I'll only get chastised for demonstrating myself to be 'outside of paramounts 'target deomographic 'preferential' profile groupings' My 'word of mouth' viral marketing is not 'upbeat' enough... ooh the sleepiness has come again..

"And I need to point out, since a lot of Hines supporters love to slag Speilberg and Cruise, that Hines originally wanted to do a updated version set in Seattle and switched to the period version when he found out that Paramount was planning a updated remake. Some Wells purist. I thought that. I still think a period WOTW is a bigger risk than a contemporary one. I think on a scale of nought to ten; 'Independence Day" was about two; Paramount's is about four and PP's about eight. That is of course my subjective assessment. I just think there are more risks with a film about a Martian invasion set in the nineteenth century and Hines seems to have thought the same, originally, as he was making a contemporary version. Why he changed his mind and went for a period version is a mystery. Did he do market research? In which case why did Paramount go for a contemporary version when they very likely have market research coming out of their ears? Now I know what you are all thinking. Market research is not foolproof - look what happened to 'Heaven's Gate' but movie makers did not stop doing market research after that period. In fact they have got worse if anything, because they try to take FEWER risks. Look at all the remakes, sequels and adaptations of hit TV shows going on. Film companies try to minimise risks as much as possible by using 'tried and tested formulas'. Sometimes they go out on a limb and attempyt something new and untried. They take a risk. Sometimes risks pay off. I guess Erin Brockovich was one such example. Totally unmemorable title and a complicated, political premise that could put backers if not audiences off. I believe Film companies call movies like that 'Unrepeatable phenomena' or something similar. Now I suppose there are numerous possiblities; 1) Hines did market research and it told him that TWOTW set in period would be a hit so he changed his plan and set it in 1900. 2) Hines did not get any market research results that supported a period version but he heard that Spielberg was producing a contemporary version and decided it would be stupid to go head to head with him so he decided to, maybe, take a risk and try to, maybe, ride on Spielberg's coat tails. 3) Spielberg decided to ignore the market research that said that people would prefer a period version and make a contemporary version. 4) Spielberg saw the box office returns from 'Independence Day' and thought "Tried and tested so it's a sure fire bet! Let's remake 'The War of the Worlds' without the things that spoiled it for me when I saw it as a kid!" 5) Speilberg did market research that showed that a contemporary version of 'The War of the Worlds' would be a sure fire hit but a period version would not . Or combinations of the above, perhaps including other alternatives. The kicker for me is that Spielberg did not make it true to the book and in period. He hired in writers to make it work. and fit the profile market research and the financial backers - the suits - built up. So I guess that Hines was the artist, willing to take a risk and do it according to the book...... in defiance of market research that had, maybe, originally told him it was a bad idea. But like many artists he just couldn't attract enough money and the project got into difficulties and he kept going, hoping something would turn up and, maybe, he finally had to admit nothing would and go for a straight to DVD release. Spielberg on the other hand, ever the shrewd businessman did it all by the book and we can expect it will be a professional, slick production with eye-popping special effects that will suit the youngsters that make up the summer audiences and he can pat himself on the back and say he made a better version than Pal. The main problem i se with this is simply the March 30th date ....
If PP simply removed the 30th March date from the website then problem solved ...we wouldn't then know when it's planned for release.
In my opinion ...I cannot see anything amature/unprofessional in the 1.26 mins trailer....How can you base an opinion of the whole film based on that small look .. ok some is unfinished ..but so what
It may be that no news is good news .....after all Hines doesn't HAVE to supply us with news just because we are having a go at him, he may be banging in the finishing touches, or pp may have gone on holiday ;D...bearing in mind most of the filming was completed a long time ago ...all that was left was the SFX .
I still think we are gonna get something big being announced soon ...jury's out on the release date, it will be released ..but when

Well I've had it with this. What a waste of time and energy. Motile, Rusty, Dudalb - you guys were great. Keep it real. As for Pendrgon - f**k you, Timothy Hines. (This is how it's done, Rusty. I'm NEVER coming back! ;D)

"I cannot see anything amature/unprofessional in the 1.26 mins trailer...." Even giving Hines the benefit of the doubt on the SFX, the acting in the various clips was amateur hour. THe SFX can be improved, but he is stuck with the performances unless he goes back and reshoots the whole film. If the acting in the final film is of the level of the trailer, the cheesy performances alone will be enough to sink the film. "jury's out on the release date, it will be released ..but when " End of June, at a bargain DVD bin near you. Read the Forbes artical, guy. That pretty much ends any hope of a widespread theatircal distribution. As for Amateur/Unprofessional, the whole marketing and distriubtiion of this film could be described as amateur level....

we shall see
jeez I wish Hines hadn't bothered with this, seems more trouble then it's worth
One things for sure Hines certainly knows how to stur up a crowd.....pity it is not in a cinema watching WOTW rather then a forum on the internet

Despite lack of official news, still hope to see the film in whatever form it comes in. Im certainly not a "Tim" fan, but i appreciate that he has attempted to film the novel.
I said in my first post, i still support the project but disheartened by the lack of news. Pendragon certainly should have capitalised on the mounting publicity for Spielbergs film and been more pro-active, this is what confuses me, despite budget and quality restrictions he is/was in a fantastic position to do this, why? we dont know, nobody seems too other than Pendragon.
Im certainly not going to judge the film until i have seen it (if i do).
My observation recently, (and i know i have only just joined but have followed the site for news) is someone posts a snippet of info, or someone merely suggest wishing to see the film and they get swamped out by members just out for any excuse to rip the film apart.

[glow=purple,2,300]Hi BungleBonce, and welcome to the forum.
As one of the people who have posted about wanting to see it, and been swamped, I don't see anyone using it as an excuse for ripping the film apart.
Most of the posts are legitimately challenging Hines ability to deliver, and because all we've seen is a half-complete trailer, the final result is debatable. Combined with Pendragons silence, a lot of people are now expressing doubts. Most of the anti-film posts are not to be taken too seriously - they are meant to get some debate going in an otherwise stale atmosphere. [/glow]

Hey, it ebbs and flows. Some weeks, the critics swamp the optimists, some weeks it's the other way round. However, the critics are more numerous now, if only because the lack of word from Pendragon has turned a lot of people against them (and whose fault is that, quite frankly?). And yes, on the fillum boards, there is an air of stale boredom, like an ashtray after the night before... All we're doing is waiting. If March 30 comes and goes with nowt, we'll know 100% for sure that the cinema release is rubbish. Then there'll be a few months to wait for the DVD release. Oh joy...

To attract pendragons attention i may have to put up a pendragon fan trailer. They emailed me straight away last time to take it down, so maybe that would work.

Let's be honest, that is not a 100% certainty either. True, though slightly more likely if that cheapo DVD company's involved. Still only slightly more likely though.

Oh c'mon, even the big studios appriciate the benefit of free press. Hine's obviously has no idea how the net works it seems, or how to use itfor that matter
