Im getting close to believing this film is going to be a straight to DVD release, even though it has been stated it will hit the cinamas. But with the lack of information and the nearing date of March 30th with NO news in rock of its release, I can only think this way. . . But thats MY decision. However, all is not lost. If they decided to go for that 'straight to dvd' release, at least we will be able to see it. One film springs to mind that has all the hall marks of what we have seen (so far) from Pendragon. Just after the release of James Camerons TITANIC in 1998, a small and new production company named 'Regent Entertainment Production' released in 1999 a 'very' low budget film called BRITANNIC, the younger sister ship to the Titanic, which struck a mine during November of 1916 and sank. Like Pendragon Pictures, this small production house used a huge array of CGI FX for the film, the whole ship was completely CGI. The film is watchable to an extent, its not good but its not bad either. Everything I have seen so far fom Pendragon looks the same as BRITANNIC, and BRITANNIC never hit the big screen, going straight to dvd. Here is a review of the film on Amazonwww.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6305857563/104-5139299-7887129?v=glanceI am not saying that Pendragons film will go this way, just looking that way at present. Search for the film and take a look yourself and see what you think of this film.

Bargain bin of my local HMV for a fiver... LOL - I dont know what's more funnier, the fact its sounding more like a 'bargain bin' film jobbie or the fact you claim that HMV have a bargain bin with items in for a fiver. HMV & VIRGINS have the same pricing system - 'NO ITEMS UNDER A TENNER' ;D

I thought Virgin & HMV price policy was retail price + 5 quid!

Well, to each their own. I don't see what you see as far as going straight to DVD. To me, it looks like a small studio working tons of overtime trying to get out their first really big production.
Guess we'll find out on the 30th.

Well considering you can't even get Chrome on DVD, maybe it's optimistic even to expect this!

Doesn't mean it can't go straight to DVD though. Fact is Chrome is supposedly finished and it seems to be sitting there on the shelf waiting to see the light of day.
If a finished film isn't available then I can see why people are getting anxious over War of the Worlds!
Chrome looks quite good, at least from the trailer, so it's shame that it's being held in limbo.

Yeah, heck if I know why it isn't out yet. My only guess would be Mr. Hines is waiting for it to go into cinemas to take a ride on the succes of WotW (Chrome, from the director of WotW). I agree that the trailer looks awesome. Only doesn't realy tell what to expect from the movie (but I got that from the internet).

I'm sure Tim Hines said Chrome would get a release after WotW.

Maybe Mr Hines knows he is on to a sure fire hit if he can get this thing out, if it is a big success then that would be better for Chrome in the cinema...it would make a name for Hines

From what Pendragon has said, Chrome is not finished. They're saying that Chrome was in post-production and was put on hold to do TWOTW. Whether or not this was a good decision depends on how they do with TWOTW. If that movie is a success, it would provide a huge boost to Chrome, through increased publicity for the studio itself. We all know how studios and directors are asked 'whats next?' when they get a hit. If they can have Chrome ready to release shortly after 'War', it would be a nice boost for the studio. On the other hand, if the nay-sayers are correct and 'War' founders, that plan pretty much falls apart and the publicity they'll get won't be the kind they really want.

But it looks like Mr. Hines is confident enough (he should be) in WotW as Pendragon is announcing the re-release on DVD of all the previous Mr. Hines movies. -Gnorn

Or as in the case of HMV here in Dublin - retail price + 15 quid! As regards Pendragon's movie, I really hope this isn't going to end up as an unobtainable production. Imagine if we all knew it was sitting on a shelf somewhere but nobody could see it? After about 10 years it'd gain almost legendary status as some kind of lost 'classic'. Come to think of it, maybe Pendragon have this in mind....

When -WHEN!!!- it will be delayed, I don't mind. Even if it DOES go straight onto DVD I don't mind. As long as I can see his movie, I'd be happy. But for Mr. Hines sake, I hope it WILL get into cinemas. -Gnorn

I think the bootleg VHS grapevine is the best bet at this point, along with the Star Wars 1978 Holiday Special and Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie ;D

I'm sure Hines wants to get Pendragon's version out *before* Paramount's, so they can cash in on the publicity. If it is, it will do better box office than otherwise. If it's delayed until after the Paramount version -- which unfortunately is looking more and more likely, since it doesn't seem to have been booked in theatres -- then either they need to delay it for YEARS or else they might as well make it a straight-to-video release.
Those in this forum who think the Pendragon production can't seriously affect Paramount's box office take are mistaken. Cheap productions rushed thru to take advantage of a blockbuster's publicity campaign can sabotage the more expensive film's box office. Of course this isn't exactly the case here*, as Pendragon's version was in production well before Paramount's.
*(Which likely won't stop the Usual Suspects from using my remark as a "straight line".)
A good example of cheap movies sabotaging a great one is "The Abyss". This epic James Cameron production with outsanding acting was sabotaged at the box office by the similarly themed but abysmall ;-) movies "Leviathan" and "Deep Star 6" which were released just before it.

I guarnatee you that film that looks more and more as if it is not going to get anything more then a indie/foreign language film limited release is not going to cause Speilberg to lose any sleep. The two films you mentioned had mass distriubtion and were publicised. Pendragon's WOTW seems to have neither.
