War of the Worlds Online is most privilaged to have been provided with an exciting sample of test footage (R&D) from the CGI Film being produced by Jeff Wayne/Ollie Record Productions, based on Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds. The sequence shows the incredible Martian Fighting Machine - Alive!!! Jeff and his team are very advanced in their development of the feature film and will be releasing more test footage over the next few months! Jeff's official website - www.thewaroftheworlds.com - is being released in March, with a full e-commerce capability, and the album is being re-promoted by Sony on a worldwide basis in June, with a variety of exciting new products - including a 6 CD box set, a DVD and a wealth of previously unheard material. The quality of this short test snippet is razor sharp, showing the amazing detail that has gone into the movement and textures of the fighting machine. The clip lasts around 15 seconds and contains no sound. By the looks of this animation test, the upcoming feature film will be amazing. May will also see the publication of the first in a series of Comic Books based on Jeff's Musical work, by Striker 3D plc. Goto www.waroftheworldsonline.com and follow the links to the test animation clip on the news page to download it.

I guess they solved the problem of rotating the 'hed' when the legs are attached directly to it.
Nice! Very nice indeed!

Awesome. Thanks everso for providing this clip, now I'm REALLY looking forward to the film. That back leg looks distinctly odd when brought far forward and tucked under the machine, but odd doesn't make it wrong!
The animation will only load to about 2/3 point for me. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks again.

Thats it, Tim Hinds movie is DEAD, hear me folks D E A D taken to the barn with the famers shotgun and put out of its misery. The JW project is on the same budget as the PP one and this simple shot is 1000 times better than all what ive seen of PP version.
My focus is now 110% behind this...
If a simple tripod test can be as good as this then gawd knows what the whole film would be like. Fantastic!
Truly worthy of Wells.

to think this is a test is a striking thought. This isn't even finished. Oh man, i wish they would put Some of the vehicles from the game in here, but ahh well, maybe the new game will look this fantastic as well. As for the movie, the only thing they need to do well now is make believable people. If they can do that then it should be fantabulous.

You know, I personally have never been fond of the Wayne FM design (my first exposure was to the Alvim Correa 'tall tripod'), but this... this is exciting! The stride motions are wonderful.
I, too, love the quick 'real world' focus adjustments - suggests the style of the movie may be a bit similar to what they're doing with the new Battlestar Galactica on SciFi.
Good stuff, and "great job!" to Rob for getting this for us!!!!!

8-)Just had another look at that amazing clip of the FM! looking at the feet it reminds me of ED209 from the Robocop films but better animated. lets hope that the powers that be behind this new movie will allow us more clips in due course? I originally had problems with the last section not displaying but looking at it today only one word describes it! AWESOME!

Absolutly brilliant - love the 'claw' type feet!! I've always wondered how the rear leg came into the equation - now I see - awsome!!! Very smooth movements indeed, hardly any hood movement, that was kept very still. I'm still looking forward to Pendragons version, but this (for me) I think is without a doubt going pi*s on the other two. Its not going to be good, its going to be very, very good ;D

Thats it, Tim Hinds movie is DEAD, hear me folks D E A D taken to the barn with the famers shotgun and put out of its misery. yes, this test does make the Hines effort, from what we've seen of the effects, look truly lacking... at first glance. however, as impressive as that test footage is, it is really very simple to do, that is... with a small talented team. the triod is well modeled, the animation is just awesome, and the textures and dust effects are nice. however its really not fair to compare this to pendragons effort, as pendragon has presented us with final, or close to final effects for their movie, which has been storyboarded, filmed, composited with live action, and visual effects added. lets just forget about all aspects of the pendragon trailer except for the scene with the tripod legs, which most people can agree was pretty cool, if not perfect. now, i got just as excited watching those legs striding forward as i did when i saw the JW test footage, and that was a completed scene with fully rendered cgi animation, live action compositing, dynamic lighting, and foley effects added. its just flat out folly to judge the final product based on the effects, good or bad. look at Episode I. this is all good news to me however, as i am now looking forward to the wayne movie just as much as the pendragon movie, when before i was kind of dubious about them using those clumsy tripods. looks like they got that tripod animation down almost perfectly, it doesn't look clumsy anymore, although the sheer length of the legs does make the striding motion a little too fast, IMO. when the legs take their strides, they move forward VERY quckly, almost too quickly. they have to because of the sheer length of the legs, if they are going to move that far in one smooth stride... but thats a nitpick. after all, its just a test. and it really is f*ing bad arse looking ;D

I have always had a special place in my heart for JW's Fighting Machines, in fact i like them the best out of all designs i have seen over the years. The clip was outstanding the way it brought that machine to life. In fact in my civ 3 mod based on WOTW, the JW FM's are the ones used. ;D
Cheers Thorgrimm
