If it is a cylinder, when its impacted the ground would it create a mere 'tidal' wave of fire that is seen rushing up and over the street behind the 4x4 vehicle that Cruise is in. . . Nah, thats the Heat Ray.

'THE LAST WAR ON EARTH WON'T BE STARTED BY HUMANS'
You want a bet - round one cylinder Vs Heat Ray
Actually it reads 'The Last War On Earth Won't Be Started By Humans' then Tom Cruise's name appear right after it. I they suggesting that Cruise is in fact a alien in real life.

The "explosions" start at the suspension bridge which is shattered by some impact, then the bridge colapses and is smashed in rapid succession, each time a support is hit there is a yellow flash as if something hot and big smashed into the river shattering the suspension framework before sliding along behind the bridge. But who knows right? Spielbergs got the atmosphere spot on. He has! So what you saying? A cylinder takes out the entire bridge by impact and shockwaves and then splashes into the river? Wouldn't a 100 feet+ cylinder be more visible in the frame?

A thought, do you think we are going to get lots of cylinders raining down in this version? To justify the suprise element, ie they just start raining down rather than one per day?

I am willing to put 20 pounds to charity if it turns out to be the heat ray and not a cylinder like ive said.
I'm that confident.

I think it's safe to assume that we'll see more alien activity here than in the book. Maybe it starts out with one cylinder, and when we learn they're malevolent cylinders will be raining all over. That'd be neat!

I can always tell when something important has just happened by the fact that a thread with several pages suddenly appears between the times I drop by!
At least I won't have to watch the Superbowl now to see this! My wife and I are not a big fan of sporting events especially when we have no real idea what's going on ;D
At first I was dissapointed when there was still no footage of a Martian fighting machine or cylinder but when then I showed this to a colleague at work, he was impressed and said he likes how Spielberg is keeping it all under wraps as he dislikes trailers where they practically show you everything and there are no surprises left! In this I have to agree with him.
I think when the general public sees this, they are just going to see a bridge buckling and exploding as it's too quick and short to able to register whats going on in detail. I had to view this at least a couple of times to see that there was actually something hitting the bridge at intervals causing this.
As to it being a Cylinder impact, it looks more like a heatray to me as you can definitely see the flashes where something invisible strikes. Also wouldn't you at least see part of the cylinder as it slid along striking the bridge (unless it was invisible too)? You can see the supports are relatively untouched and just the road itself is being flipped which would be somewhat difficult to do with a cylinder impact!

As Wells describes the Heat Ray as 'an invisible sword of heat' and the frames of the trailor shows nothing remotely like a cylinder which would be visible, it stands a very good chance of being the old HR.

I suspect a drop behind the bridge hence the need for a bridge, but the cylinder hits in the river digging in deep and then slides alond the length of the bridge from the river towards the camera destroying the bridge as it goes, physicaly touching it. wells wrote for the cylinder to hit and slide. its genius realy, Spielberg hides a money shot hes keeping for the cinema of a cylinder ariving with another money shot of the bridge being demolished. like I said who knows right, ideas are fun dude!

A hundred feet long will do, and it could just be low, under the line of sight, Wells wrote for them to be 30 yards accross, if half of it is submerged in mud or whatever theres only 15 yards protruding and I dont know how high that bridge is.

I think that Horsell and Rusti are doing exactly what the trailer makers want them to do. Be completely confused as to what the hell did that to the freeway.
Do you think the martians could have some kind of 'push things over' gun?
