I said before the movie will be great but it wont be WOTW. With a budget of 150 magasmackoroonies I d xpect a good picture from SS.
But hes only shown a bridge exploding.
The music was good.
The little girls acting brought a tingle to my spine. Glad my daughter isn't going thru that!!!

Spielberg is giving us Martians, Fighting Machines, Cylinders, Heat Ray, Red Weed, all hell bent on destruction - what part of that is NOT War Of The Worlds - note I said WOTW and not H.G.Wells TWOTW as thats been left to Tim Hines to deliver. man that is rather creepy.
I think we do have some kind if invisible impact energy going on here. There is a white flash just before each section goes up - could be an impact strike - or an over-active imagination!!!
Regardless, Incredibly well executed and salivating first look...
I think we are in for a SERIOUS TREAT!!
the only problem is that in analysing the trailer I keep getting a 1 second burst of 'oooeeeiichhh' just before the bridge goes up. I guess that's the price of fandom!!

Looking at the scene, when Fanning does the 'oooeeeiichhh', I reckon she has seen a Fighting Machine. As the trailor suggests she is doing this due to the bridges desctruction, but the collaspe happens when the 4x4 is in motion, but her fear is when the 4x4 is still.

Or possibly she's just spotted the porn magazines that Manny's got stacked in the back. Pete

So is it right to assume this is a beefed up fleeing to Leatherhead section? After all there is the bit where the writer steams in and hires the cart over another poor guy! It could be that cruise has already seen the pit and what the heatray can do. Infact the bridge could be being destroyed from the pit maybe? I'm trying to gauge how the FM's will be revealed, as it seems that cruise hasn't seen the FM's yet but knows carnage is coming.

You are out-thinking me with your supple brains of deduction. "Mmm. Brains." - Martian. It looks like it. The attack comes without warning, as the crowds are in the streets, wondering what to do, as in the book. Ray takes off (got bored of typing 'Cruise') with another man's transport, without much thought to his own safety. Only this time he doesn't pay him and it isn't a willing transaction. The heat ray strikes at long range along the top of the bridge (ala roofs and chimneys in the book) causing the start of the real panic. The big difference is that Ray has his family (sans Otto, who is in another state or something) rather than the isolation of the narrator. The big question is; what has Ray seen prior to this point? Did he approach the pit early in the morning (I'm assuming events move faster in the film with no 'troubled sleep') with other interested locals? Did only he survive the massacre? Was the rest of the town (and Manny) disbeliving? Perhaps they haven't deduced the reason for the EMP, but Ray, having seen the crater and the mini-heat ray massacre there, realises! It certainly gives him the drive to get away! Pete P.S: Eeep!

Oh!
And don't you mean Maybury Hill rather than Leatherhead?
And, wow! My 50th post! Yay me!
I love this site and all who sail in her.

Anyways, other than the Martians, Dakota is going to steel this movie. Whatever she spots, it's REAL! Damn, Spielberg knows how to tackle children's emotions.

4x4, surely you know what a 4x4 is. The vehicle looks like a Chevy Blazer - a 4x4.
The attack comes with warning as the scene showing Fanning with the wind screen behind her, closer look you can see hundreds of people, most of which are legging it.

Well, he heads from Maybury to Leatherhead then tries to return the cart. I'm betting he doesn't do that here!!;D I think the girl sees the destruction, not the monster as it were. I don't think Spielberg would reveal the tripod in the day, I think he'll stick to revealing them at night. I also think he'll drop a nod to the album and have cruise getting his daughter/wife out on a ferry, but getting beaten back himself. This sets up the fallen house scene and the big reveal of the martians. (I'm thinking we'll probably only see tentacles at the pit.)

Looks V cool!! It's actually the heat ray taking out the bridge, not a cylinder. So, looks like the 'ol Berg's gone with the invisible heatray, not a green laser in sight! All I see is a bridge blown apart and an explosion. No heat ray, no evidence of a heat ray being used. So I fail to see your aurgment But aside from that scary none the less, I wil be watching this film. I wil no doubt be enjoying it. But I will be studying it closely too, and not based on it's effects

Ha Ha! If you look you can see the heatray impact hits as it runs along the bridge. The heatray is of course 'invisible' so you would only be able to see where it hits. Check it again sir! ;D

I also think people are getting excited due to the 'tone' that the footage so far seems to be setting. It has atmosphere you cant deny that. Whatever your view views of actors/directors involved. Oh and for the last time, hollywood films can be good!! Rant over....

According to what ive heard a cylinder hits the 'bridge' and travels along the ground ripping out the supports.
peeps forget one thing.
The heat ray is a continuous beam yes? Then why wasnt it hitting objects beyond the spaces between the supports?
yes?

It's melting the whole bridge!! The supports actually stay mostly intact. What looks like smoke from below is actually bad vid compression of trees lining the road.
