Well JW's machines do 'carry' a huge funnel. Yes, it's mounted on the main body of the machine, rather than carried in the traditional sense (ie. in a tentacle or whatever).. but it's still 'carried'. Difficult to see how they would "flourish" it though... perhaps they should change the text.."it waggled the heat ray projector around a little bit, and the ghostly, terrible heat ray struck the town" 'Flourish' means to wave something dramatically/dramatic waving motion. The Heat Ray funnel on the JW/MT Fighting Machine is fixed to a ball socket, so its moves about freely (so to speak)

I got the impression that the tripods were modelled after their makers, similar to the spielberg aliens and their fm's, hense jw's are a big bulk with luminous eyes.
