We have had this topic today, Tolkiens world was made up, fantasy, not real. WOTW was set in Woking and London, so to move then to Bayonne makes little difference.
You couldnt adapt LOTR to modern times anyway, Gandalf would be arrested for having a big stick as a weapon and Gimmle would be in the circus.

Motile, Motile , Bless ya you lovable rogue!
You asked me how me how far a movie has to go before its bad? Im asking you how far does a movie go before its not WOTW?
You all praise Speilberg by what hes says. You cannot praise his effects cause all weve seen is a bridge blowing up, else weve seen nought! Its all f**ked up! Ive heard guys here bleat on how wonderful the film is without actually seeing f**k all. And I mean f**k all.
Some comptemporary pics, some scenic and set pics etc Lots of stills of people looking pissed off. Trust me. If I got seventy people, made them stand around waiting in the cold for a while I could produce those pics!
This is where Hines has gone wrong. Hes tried to tempt us and fell flat on his face. At least with the sceptics. Wait to it does come out, If it does of course!?!

they're both works of fiction. it doesn't matter where they're set in relation to eachother. My point exactly.

The point was we may have had little from SS but it has all been good, we have had more fom Hines and it has all been bad, so there lies my conundrum.

But I dont think what Ive seen is bad apart from the Big Ben scene but only cause of attention to detail and not physics etc.

LMAO!!! What would people say if Peter Jackson 'addapted' LOTR and transferred it into a present day situation? Frodo, an all-American boy, wearing a Yankees cap, and facing the evil hordes of the Axis of Evil. -Gnorn That sounds great! Im gonna get my pencil out and write a draft play!

Both WOTW and LOTR are works of fiction, regardless of their settings. My point is that on one hand people claim Spielberg's WOTW is WOTW because he will grasp the general idea of the book. But if the idea of LOTR was to be done in a modern day setting, everybody and his mother and their dog would be all over the place. -Gnorn

"•Spielberg's film will hew closely to themes and events in Wells' novel, featuring such elements as the red weed and the black smoke, as well as a cellar sequence right out of the book. "
If this is true, then it can be classed as WotW.

No one has been able to show why WOTW wouldn't work in a modern setting.

Everyone knows LOTR wouldn't work in a modern setting. No one has been able to show why WOTW wouldn't work in a modern setting. And exactly why would LOTR not work in a modern day setting? Allthough you cannot include all of the fairytale futures, you can still grab the essence of the story. Maybe that's what Spielberg will do with Indy 4, The One Ring. Allthough not exactly modern day, it will be updated... -Gnorn

Did you read my previous posts? -Gnorn Yeah, you're getting your franchises mixed up. Spielberg is adapting WOTW the novel into a WOTW movie. He's not adapting a LOTR book into a INDIANA JONES movie. Now you're going to tell me the fact that CSI:Miami is going to feature an episode in which the King of Narnia's brutal stabbing is investigated by the crew is really upsetting your purist sensibilities.
