I'd cancel this project here and now. Why not, here he is TRYING to make an updated version of our favorite book, and everytime he sneezes funny, everyone jumps on him saying "ARRRGH he's ruining the book!" God what will it take to make people happy. Tripods red weed and a dark atmosphere apparently arent enough, for every one thing he gives us that is faithful to the book, someone will find seven different things to gripe about. Lets face it, this is THE MOST FAITHFUL ADAPTATION TO DATE. As for PP, well Im still hoping, but lets just say im not holding my breath. Im going to see the movie, all three for that matter, but gods, its sacralige to naysay PP, and were all supposed to give them a chance, but damn spielburg and co. Why? Why not give them credit where it is due. It is stated in one of his interviews that he looked online to see what people wanted, what the fans wanted. Ever stop to think that maybe thats why He added Tripods and redweed and the REST of the faithful things he added? Im just saying its pretty rotten to bash a man who WOULD SEEM to care. And before you say "Well he doesnt care because he cut out the martians" Im gonna say he did it because, well, he wants to try and make it almost believeable (lol as believable as an alien invasion can be) and well, I dont think invaders from mars are gonna cut it, since we now know mars is not inhabited. Sorry if this is ranty, and sorry if I make anyone mad, but geez, please, don't hate on something before the final project is finished, give ALL THE DIRECTORS a chance, cause sadly, we have a long way to go before we get to see what these movies are REALLY like.

Good rant , Im lookin forward to all 3 films, infact im lookin forward to all things that are released based on War of the Worlds. For me its JW, SS, PP in order of the one im lookin forward to the most, but seeing any and all of them will be a pleasure to me . Right now is a very good time to be a War of the Worlds fan, infact better than any other time I can remember for any other story/film. 3 films on the way, new games and remixed musical version. I cant wait.............quite literally, I want it all out now!!!!

VOTE ArmoredTrackLayer! No seriously *sniff* that was beutiful *sniff* just beutiful But I do agree with what you say whole heartedly, the only thing is if we all just stayed quiet (remeber I agree with you here) and just said nice things about these productions and we all did a bit a back patting possitive pontification then once all the good things had been said again and again wouldnt the board become a little erm...boring? I think if some guys dont like certain bits then its their right to say so if they wish. But on the whole I thnk your right about Spielberg.

God what will it take to make people happy. not tearing the book a new a-hole would be a start. this rant is all well and good, but its kind of silly. spielberg is making this movie not for the fans. he's making it for the masses. why should he cancel it? just because some purists on a message board are pissed off (myself included)? SS is gonna make a heap of cash on this movie, 99% of it coming from people who probably have never heard of WOTW, or if they have, they associate it with the '53 movie. so relax, your version of WOTW (sans Martians ) will most likely be a huge box office success and almost everybody will not even know that the book run through a paper shredder.

Bunch of GODDAM, LILY LIVERED PANSIES sucking up to their diety. He wasn't even going to call it War of the Worlds for GODS SAKE! He sticks a tripod and red weed in it and KAPOW!!! Its the most faithful adaptation to date!!!!!!!!
Theres no evidence Mars was not inhabited. Its just now unlikely. But it always was unlikely!!!

From what I read it was actually going to be its original title.
The PP title of the great boer war was to ensure secrecy.
But I dont want to upset the mighy SS as he is watching apparently.

exactally, taking this out of the timeframe and removing the martians immediately makes this NO LONGER a faithful adaptation. But I think we will all enjoy this movie when it comes out because we will be able to look at certain scenes and go "Damn, thats (insert random scene from book here)" Now I may be proven wrong, and SS might just very well end up kicking us fans in the bollocks, but lets give him a chance.

i've already stated several times in numerous threads that i will go see this movie, but only for the effects because thats all i care about at this point. several times on these forums i've described myself as 'an effects w_hore', and yup, i am i love CG effects. but WOTW is a little closer to my heart than ID4.

I cant see this as being even remotely the same as ID4, apart from them both being about alien invasions, but apart from that I think people should stop comparing it to ID4, ID4 was a visualy stunning hollow monster covered in processed cheese.

Plus the entire story hinged on our own ufo folklore at area 51 with a great big stinking plot device that was the old alien attacker, the ending was rushed and stunk of cheese, the whole thing lacked sincerity and punch, ID4 was one of those films that was better before it came out, during the build up to it, the posters and trailers were ace. The cherry on the cake was the dire "America saves the day" bullsh*t theme that ran through the whole thing. Spielbergs WOTW is being done seriously, there wont be much, if any, cheese. Its being done with the realism it deserves. Its nothing like ID4, thats why you cant compare the two.

LOTR, Gimli - Toss me! gimli falls off of a horse. gimli belches.) it takes away from the movie. you CAN compare the two, and i'm doing it, like it or not, because its a relavent comparison. SS even said that he put off doing WOTW because ID4 was too much like it. no comparison there? how do you know that SS WOTW will not be a cheese fest? because SS says so? well for all of our sakes i hope he and you are right.
