Well SS and Cruise both refer to the 'aliens' as martians. I personally think its a wind up. Me too Rusti.

Im not disagreeing with you guys, what you say does have some merrit but can I ask what you think they would gain from winding us up with disinformation? Surely its not to keep the martian theme a secret, that secret was blown over a hundred years ago, im interested in your points of view.

Do people still use the term 'Martian' in the 21st century?. All because SS said NO to Martians does not mean that his aliens in the film are going to appear differant than what Wells described. They could or they could not appear in the film very similar. All because of a title change doesn't mean we have to rule them out completely. Think - Martians, erm liitle on the sounding silly side in 21st century Earth knowing what we know already about the red planet. Alien however is still freely used, a spine tingler, not too old fashioned and leaves the imagination running amock. well, if the latest evidence proves to be true, then the word Martian will soon be removed from purely fictional to scientific fact. all the more reason for SS to have Martians in his movie, since its looking like they actually do exist.

Well SS and Cruise both refer to the 'aliens' as martians. I personally think its a wind up. Why not? And... ...I think he's going to add the victorean clothing and buildings using CGI before the release date too! Ive that much faith in Speilberg sticking even loosly to the actual story.

Forgive me, but WHERE do Cruise and Spielberg say the aliens in their movie will be Martians? I've read them mention Martians in connection to the novel, but not in connection to the movie.

Forgive me, but WHERE do Cruise and Spielberg say the aliens in their movie will be Martians? I've read them mention Martians in connection to the novel, but not in connection to the movie. i don't recall either one of them saying that, but wouldn't you think it would have been a safe bet that they would be martians? after all, thats the whole point of the book... martian invasion. however it seems as if they've thrown us a curve, they'll just be aliens apparently... oh well, i've given up all of my original hopes for this movie, i have now lowered my expectations to a level that i am agreeable with so that i may be able to enjoy this movie when it hits the screens. and before anyone aims their flamethrowers at me ;D i said the same thing about pendragon, after seeing the below-industry quality FX, that i had lowered my expectations for that movie so that it would still be an enjoyable experience. i really am looking forward to the SS movie, it won't be my dream realized, but it will be fun.

Perhaps SS may follow Parson Nathaniels reasoning, and that they're the demons inside us. Man's evil nature given form in some manner of secrative scientific experiment in Area 54. Scientist isolate the Evil Gene and splice it with some alien DNA out of Roswell, which mutates into 'orrible hybrid creatures. Then they nick the Air Force's latest Black Project: Tripod War Machines, and march out of Nevada...
Nathaniel: "His demons were here all along, in our hearts and souls, just waiting for a sign from Him. And now they're destroying our world!" Beth: "But they're not devils, they're Martians." Nathaniel: "No, they're bl**dy devils! I should know, I'm a Parson for God's sake!" Writer: "Right, let's thrash it out on the WOTWOnline forum then..." Beth: "Yeah, we can also debate why you're a Parson and not a Curate"

i think its stupid that ss or the writer are not using the idea of martians. i mean science says no life can exist on mars but then again isnt that what they said back in wells's time?

Hi Kurt
No they thought there were alien canals on mars in 1897, but thats academic, its fiction, by its nature its not real, its a different universe all together were you could have had martians if you wanted, Koepp just lacked the drive to come up with the plot device needed to keep the fanboys happy.
