Fair point, except my whining has a basis in fact.

this sums up spielbergs attitude and why he should not be allowed to touch this project. sad, really. Malf where did you get that quote from? Is it something that Spielberg himself said?

Fair point, except my whining has a basis in fact. nice edit there. you know i can't just let that go, right? i already pointed out in another thread just minutes ago the fact (and you can rest assured that this IS fact) is that we have different opinions. trying to pass off your opinions as fact is... well, wrong, and makes you look petty. you can have your opinions and be vocal about them, just like i'm doing, and we can debate back and forth about who is right and who is wrong, but they are just that... opinions. you aren't the end all be all purveyor of facts my friend

Well I am no expert on WOTW I have the album and have heard the narrated version on cassette a good few years ago and of course seen the 1953 film but I have never read the book (something I aim to put right soon) I will admit to being suprised when I read that the invaders would not be from Mars, why the red planet on the website and why the red weed it all points to Mars surely after all why infest a planet with a plant that has no bearing on the one they originally came from? but as SS says he wants to make the whole thing plausible so it rules out Mars as a source of life therefore I guess he is leaving the said items in so it will not upset the true WOW lovers and they can relate to them from the book.My opinion is I dont really care as long as its a well made and polished production and doesn't resort to cheesiness that ID4 did.

The Pendragon production looks like a school play, its shoddy, cheap, tacky, tastless, not even you malf can dispute that nothing of value has come from pendragon worthy of the cinema or even a budget DVD, but I digress... You are against the Spielberg version for the thinest of reasons, so they have wandered from the written path, so what? Its all fiction anyway, none of it is real, we all see it differently in our heads anyway but Spielberg has the honour of putting iwhat he sees on the big screen. Hines had the same chance, but it looks like he blew that one.

well motile, i have to disagree once again. a school play? i never got that impression. all of the regular non-fx shots i thought were all good. nothing irregular about them or especially low quality, just pretty plain is all. plain settings, but obviously victorian. i even think the acting is good, but other people apparently have different opinions about that.
anyway, the only thing about the trailers that i've seen that is questionable are the effects shots. again... how can you judge the entire movie based on those shots?
i haven't heard you gripe about anything else except for the effects (and the poor website design).
oh... and i haven't seen anything else by Hines, so how am i supposed to judge if anything worthy has been produced by him? have YOU seen any of his other movies? if not, then how can you judge them?

No but I have seen many by Spielberg so I CAN judge how this film will turn out and I have very high hopes in that respect. Using the same logic I can only judge Hines on what i've seen so far without any prior movies on which to base conjecture and all of that is just dire, every bit of it, not one bit have I thought 'oh that looks good...' not one bit. So I dont care if its word for word that wont make it good, and I dont care if SS's isnt on the written path because I know it will be ace whatever the outcome.

just for the sake of argument, directed and or produced by SS:
Minority Report A.I. Jurassic Park 3 The Lost World - Jurassic Park (talk about messing up a book to screen production, this was NOTHING like the book AT ALL. yeah, i'm talking about the Crichton book) Men in Black 2 Men in Black Casper Joe Vs the Volcano Batteries Not Included
in my opinion, crap movies. not everything spielberg does is gold... a lot of it is but trusting that WOTW will be great just because its spielberg, well i hope so. but i've been dissappointed by SS before
oh yeah, and Indy 3 - crap

A.I. was ace (apart from the ending) Minority report was pretty good, but I am a Philip K D1ck fan. Men in black was by Barry Sonnenfeld and Batteries not included was ace, it was a kids movie dude, like the goonies. Now Hook was crap.
The one thing that all the films had was quality, now SS has the script he always wanted (so he says) so you can pretty much bet it will be on the 'hit' list along with CE3K and Jaws.

Men in black wasnt directed by him or written by him and Batteries is for kids, its a christmas movie, my niece loves it, I have it on VHS but I dont think I will get it on DVD, its that kind of movie, its a warm fuzzy smaltzy movie, for kids.
You can edit the title however you please but just for accuracy's sake it was "out of the night"

The point here though Malf is that SS has produced gold, where by TH has only ever produced crap. Crap compared to hollywood budget but bug wars seems to have had a decent review.
