I think thats a bit strong, if it were called something else but had tripods and red weed then yeah that would have been ripping off WOTW, but this is called WOTW and has a lot of the elements from the book so 'ripping off' seem to be a little inaccurate, instead of a modern adapatation it seems to be more a modern adaptation loosely based on the books ideas and tones.

I do have a sense of humour but the human race dont get it! In fact...wasn't the broken record mode on...a form of humour? Not good but it was myself laughing at myself constantly repeating the same opinion. Not just to you M. Dont get flattered. Didnt you find my picture funny dude? Come on it was, I bet you smiled, just a little bit...?

I guess that makes everything ok. the spirit of the book is being crushed. all for the sake of a buck. i guarantee you thats why most of these changes are being made. mass appeal for more money. thats all well and good, we all have to make a living. most people who see this movie aren't going to care if they're not martians, or if its set in a modern time. hell, most people will prefer that its set in modern times, because they would flat out just rather see that instead of victorian england. SS is not one to dissappoint the masses. the effects will be mind blowing. they will be cool. they will give me shivers up and down my spine. i'll be amazed, i'm sure. i'm even looking forward to seeing them. but all of this is balanced by deep dissappointment, a feeling of being let down, anger... they could have done it right. they didn't. instead they chose to just make another summer blockbuster, when they could have made The War of the Worlds.

Thats what I said about Pendragon LOL pendragon has an excuse for possibly not delivering the goods. they're small, have limited resources, and they're competing with the might and muscle of hollywood. SS has no excuse for what he's doing, unless you count making as much money as possible without regard to the original story as an excuse.

Pendragon are not competing with anyone dude, 42 million is not limited recources, small they may be but even thats no excuse. Spileberg is making the movie he wants to make, you either like or you dont. None of us has anything to with it so we only get the one choice, like it or dont. I think im going to like it.

you really think that there's not a competition going on right now? SS starts production on WOTW in October and completes it in June? this is damn fast. also i think its a direct result of PP's shooting of principle photography in secret.
SS is intentionally crapping all over PP by doing this. saying there's no competition going on is just wrong. its a bit one sided, yes... SS is going to walk all over PP as far as advertisement and distributing go. nobody but us fans most likely will give 2 shats about the PP movie, what with SS stealing the spotlight.
i never said i wouldn't go see his movie, or that i wouldn't enjoy it for 'what it is', as you put it motile, and thats the special effects. in fact i'm damn excited about seeing CG tripods at industry quality standards. but thats all i'm excited about. like i said, when i get hold of this DVD, its rip and edit. the title will NOT be War of the Worlds when I get hold of it.

A shame I tell you a shame!!! But I'm most certain that in the Teaser-Trailer you saw Mars for a brief moment (when it flows over in a red traffic-light) strange very strange.

well, at this very moment, its sad that you're being an a-hole on these forums. edit: i misiterpreted you there rusti, i thought you were calling me 'sad', as in 'pathetic' so don't go ballistic, k? but my initial point was its sad that SS lacks the respect for the book that should preface any type of movie production, and he actually admits it.

I think you are automaticaly looking at what SS said in a negative light purely out of a dislike for the fact he is doing it.
I took him to mean that he respected the book enough to make it but not enough to make something he didnt want to make, he didnt want to make a victorian sci-fi film, thats his right isnt it? Hes the film maker after all, I may not agree with the changes he may or may not have made but at least hes making it with quality and style. Remember its only a 200 page book and the victorian era was pretty boring, at this point I would add please dont dive into a pro Wells rant, believe me there wont be many bigger fans of the book than me, but your problem is with Spielberg I think, so you need to get over it.

please don't tell me what i 'need to get over'. i can have my own opinions about this and if you don't like that, well you can choose to either be bothered by that, or you can get over it, k? and i say that with utmost friendliness. if it were any other director besides SS i would feel the same way.
