All I can suggest then is checking that no other programs or running before installing. The game just doesn't like higher end systems but the installer *should* work if nothing else is running. I don't have XP myself, I have '98 SE but I have similar problems to yourself unless I close everything else down and I know the installer at least works on other people's XP systems. I find the best time to run it is when I have just booted my machine up. Oh, another thing I heard was that if you have more than one CD drive you will MUST install from the drive with the lowest letter.. Other than that, I have no idea. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Well, thanks. I shall try all of these things.
A question; not relating to my problem but to the game itself instead.
What format does everybody Have their game in? For me its a double jewl case, with the manual inside that. it came in a full size cardboard box (!).
Anybody Else?

In a jewel case inside a big box..(this was before the 'slim' cases were fashionable for PC games ) Same as yourself I guess. I did get my copy a week after it was released though.

Mine came in the same packaging, when huge boxes with tiny contents were popular for pc games. I bought mine about 3 hours after it was released (Dec 4 1998). I even took a half day off work to go and play it. It took me 4 weeks to beat it as the humans though.

I bought I last year in a discount toy shop for £1(!). I have never completed the game, as last time I was playing my computer died and I have not been able to install since.

I think my favorite machine is the Tempest.
I have one question.
How the heck do you get the human digging machines?! I had a scanning machine and the Bambarding machine and I couldent find them. I can't win a sectoe when those things are under ground.
One other thing. I was playing as the humans once and the Martians had an underground machine. I've never seen it. Is there actually one? Whats the deal?

[glow=red,2,300] never had any underground martians when I've played either side! As for the tunneling tanks.. I've only had that problem once, and just sending my forces in every direction eventually the humans popped up to attack. Worst for me was when I had all my mobile forces taken out and the humans had one single ironclad one hit away from death... I had to demolish all my buildings and concede the sector [/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]It all depends on what sort of game you like the best. My favourite is the strategy (PC) game but the PS1 is still fun. As to where you can get them, for the moment: EBAY. [/glow]

I have the eXPierience of wanting to kill!

LISTEN NOE PLEASE? Krys. XP doesn't like many old programs.. because it is a totally different system. For starters it has no DOS within it.
The WotW PC game will (pretty much) work if you get the fixed 'exe' and follow the steps I have posted here and elsewhere several times (ie. clean caches and start game after initial PC start up, make sure no other programs are running, etc). If you want I will post all this for you *once* more... You SHOULD then at least be able to play the WotW PC game.
If you've already REALLY tried all this and it still doesn't work... Personally, I think you should sue the people who sold you that piece of crap and start again.

Yes I know about the operating system, I thought that all of you would like to hear me drone on!
---
Yes sueing Microsoft would be nice...... ;D I don't think it was people who sold it to me (PCWORLD) but it might be the specific make, Windows Xp Home Edition Packard Bell....
--- I might have a word with PcWorld and mabey e-mail Packard Bell, and Microsoft in the future..... But then they would have probably made something like "Windows Xp Home Edition Add-On Spectacular lighting mode gaming spectacluar extraaganza version 3.5"!

Sorry to give my software a plug but from time to time I sell on ebay (oops) some game utilities under the name of the WOTW Companion that help you play the game, new scenarios, registry hacker, utilities to auto-save the game &c This provides some tweaks that will help the game run on XP, setting the screen size &c It also does a lot more and so far all my users are happy ones! Check out ebay for the latest auction (real cheap) cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8158705503&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:ITI will put an auction on ebay from time to time when this one expires. [glow=red,2,300]One article on JW's new projects mentioned re-releases of the old games... presumably all patched up. Hopefully the multiplayer option will be fixed up! [/glow]

I have got to say, my favorite machine as the Martians is the tempest. I began to like that machine when i sent one!!!! And it sank 5 ironclads, by itself!!! Then when i had 3rd gen Tempests just stomp flat london that was packed with troops, finally won me over as the best unit in the game. It is an awe inspiring sight when 6 3rd generation Tempests stomp London flat, and not lose any Martians. ;D Cheers Thorgrimm

[glow=red,2,300]Wow Thorgrimm! The tempest sure worked well for you.
Mine tended to get themselves blasted to pieces! I always had to keep an eye on them or I'd find them walking round in circles, caught up on a piece of scenery while being bombarded by Ironclads or some such.
The most effective unit for me was the Flying machines in very large numbers, often paired with bombarding machines. [/glow]

my favourite machine was the tempest. for one reason. it was evil! dual heat rays!! canister launcher!! what more do u need?
i had my best results with a mix of fighting machines, bombards and flying machines. have the bombards shell from a distance, send over your flyers to take out as many guns as possible then smite the puny humans with your FMs!
