Im expecting to see a close up of debris on the ground, blown apart buildings and amoungst the debris the camera pans across a copy of the HG Wells book.

The "Otto lump lump" hand on Ann Robinsons shoulder is one of my all time favourite iconic sci-fi images. I would love for something like that to be in this remake. Perhaps a martian invader reaches out for Rachel.. not in a threatening way.. like it's just trying to make contact... but then Tom Cruise blasts it with a gun. To be fair, I reckon poor little otto was just looking for a friend...

I think that Tom Cruise should be chatting up a woman in a bar at the start and put on some glasses. "I didn't know you wore glasses Ray?" she says, "Well, I only wear them when I want to look at something close up" he says as he puts on his glasses and looks at her (from the scene in the 1950s film where the doc first meets Ms Van Buren at the cylinder and she doesn't recognize him without his beard and glasses)

. . . or it could go
Tom Cruise could be chatting up a woman in a bar at the start of the film. He then puts on some glasses. "I didn't know you wore glasses Ray?" she says, "Well, I only wear them when I want to look at something close up, like right now and - oh my god your ugly wench".
Note the slight homage but with a twist

The glasses thing was done in 'They Live'. I'll go for the cameos.. plus the usage of the axe. That's quite enough homages in what is supposed to be a deadly serious, dark movie. Mind you.. the feet look oddly like Otto's hand...

WHY IS THE 1953 FILM HAND CALLED OTTO!!!!! ?? The term 'Otto' was used by the crew on the set of the George Pal movie, a name given to the Martian, or 'Otto lump lump' as he was given. No reason was given to why they did this.

Ricky B, I've already answered this question of yours in the TV spot 6 thread only a few hours ago. How many times do you want the question answered? The answer is.. 'Otto Lump Lump' was the name given to the martians by the crew on the '53 movie. The answer is.. 'Otto Lump Lump' was the name given to the martians by the crew on the '53 movie. The answer is.. 'Otto Lump Lump' was the name given to the martians by the crew on the '53 movie. Sorted.

That's weird. When I checked it, there was only the message saying "YES" to my thread. I must have missed it.
Thanks anyway.

Woman:"Don't keep me waiting long (alien figure walks past in the background)" Cruise:"ok got it!" *Cruise comes out in a white Navy Uniform* Cruise:"You lost that loving feeling..." Alien:"Woooaa"

Did you know that the designer of Otto lump lump had a direct association with the author of War of the Worlds? Both of them were human. It's a surprise for me as I thought that the entire film was a true story - documentary style - until last week and that Otto was actually a dying martian. It was a bit of a shock when I found out it didn't happen. However, it does explain the strange looks when I am shouting in the shopping mall about not forgetting the alien invasion and, "Did we learn nothing from the flying Boomerangs of Beelzebub?!"
