For me there are three main scenes involving the tripods that should have been done "well" the first one being the FM very first appearance on Horsell Common, the second is the Destruction of Weybridge and Shepperton and the third is the Thunderchild, it's a shame that this last one so far seems to have been neglected. The first two are pretty good, not in a big house FX budget kind of way, but it's a hell of alot better than the latter. The whole Thunderchild scene really ruins the forgiveness of the cheap FX work which to me that part should of been a highlight rather than a low. The finished product looks like a "2nd pass" render with no textures added whatsoever. And the scale....that was thrown out the window. I really loved the scenes in the demolished house as the atmosphere was quite creepy. There are no nudity at all in this movie but there is quite a bit of gore. People getting stomped on and CG blood oozing out with their flattened corpse and alot of CG skeletons and cadavers lying about, people blown to pieces, a woman getting her flesh stripped off. If you've ever seen Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow they essentially did the same thing with everyone in front of a green screen and the digital backgrounds added later. It's no where near as good as Sky Captain's visual style. The story is very well done, the acting is good, but not great. Piana does the best work of the lot I think. It's a shame this movie will be remembered for it's really poor FX. 2 out of 3 isn't bad I guess and at least it seems the story and acting has been done well, as to the digital backgrounds stuff I don't know if you've seen tham but is it anything like what was done with the Dune mini series?

Sinclair zx spectrum 48k had better graphics... My god aint that the truth tho..Thats appaling...only the acting and the atmosphere can save this one...still want to know where and why a woman gets her flesh stripped off, is this only for shock factor? If so...thats sad..

Woman getting her flesh stripped off?!! WTF where is THAT in the book? Ya, in the book and even the writer explains, they suck all the blood from the body. But, the visual clearly shows the flesh being melted away from the bone. This was in the "What we saw from the ruined house" scene.

Sorry, no. And let me expand on what I mean. When the writer is walking down roads or in quite a few house scenes CG "extras" or "props" are added, like the red weed and various corpses lying about. Or, for example, when they ride the horse and buggies, the background is clearly a CG background. Also, when they are in London or any town the background is CG.

Well, apologies to Tony for the disbelief.
I too bought it at Walmart.
It has some good moments, but generally is very poorly done.
The special effects...
Well, I could do better with Lightwave.
There are some good shots.
What really kills the sfx, though is the animation.
awful

if some1 will give me 30 million $ I would film this the way fans want... My dream is to eventually film a faithful adaption... to see the quality im going for is... the night scenes of pirates of the caribian. Mix a few tripods and cannon fire an the background over the trees down the hill and u have the scene where the narrator leaves the house the 1st time for leatherhead... actually theres no tripods.. yet lol. But peter jackson is doing what inspired him... king kong.. wotw i think inspired me. And I know what fans want... lol. just don't have the money or fame yet... around 2030 should do lol.

Does anyone have any idea if this has been downloaded to one of those sites where you can download movies? I'm not very computer literate but surely someone knows what I'm on about. Because I don't think I can buy a copy from Amazon and have it work on my PlayStation 2 as I live in Australia........

So advice people not to post the images.

Seems Mr Hinds has been jumping up and down and throwing his toys out of his pram, hence the screencaps being taken down. Shame. D.F.

My advice.
Don't post or download it from anywhere. It is ileagal. More and more countries are prosecuting. I just dont think it is worth the risk.
Better to order it from amazon.com and get your DVD player to play region 1 DVD's.
Tony.

I have a friend who works at Wal-Mart and he says they got the DVD marked to be put out Tuesday (June 7). So for those who can't find it at their local Wal-Mart, try back Tuesday.
Darn, now I know how reporters feel when they've been scooped. I held off reporting here what my friend said, because I wasn't sure it really was the Pendragon DVD he was talking about. Could have been Asylum's version... or the documentary entitled "H.G. Wells and the War of the Worlds".
