I think I am gonna have to eat my recent words here about the FX not being up to the level of an "A" film. This trailer really has me pumped! I'm so glad to have some excitement back about this project, and I'm very happy to see several of us feel the same. And I am beginning to like those tripods quite a bit. Not "chicken-headed" at all, but ant-like. I still don't understand why the heat-ray projector is non-canonical (it should look like a box camera), but if that's the largest deviation from Wells then I'll be very happy! And no sign of that horrid green lightning, either. This is looking to be MUCH better than I feared! Tinckelly: You're right, you must have seen a completely different trailer than the rest of us. ;D

Hmmmm, on watching for 4th time...
1) I feel sorry for the narrator, having someone so dim for a wife.
2) Acting is am dram standard, apart from the narrator, who doesn't seem too bad by comparison.
3) Effects work is on the cheap, there is very little cgi, I think computers have only been used to composite the fms into the real environment.
4) Martian seems a big improvement over earlier concepts.
5) What was that bit when he watches an HM blunder across the road and into a house - is that the end. I know London was a more disjoint place in 1898, but I wouldn't have thought the suburbs would have looked that rural. Actually this bit reminded me of the Chemical Brothers video with the guy being chased by a car manufacturing robot!
6) HMs seem to work far better than FMs for some reason.
7) Sky Dish is an attempt to portray the wobbling parabolic disc, but really it should be held in the tentacles and not go up and down like a car radio aerial!
8) Exploitation element far less present. Bosomy Opera singer now gone. Electro bondage now gone. Surprised there isn't a hint of more gore though.
9) Who is the bearded chap who looks like Captain Birdseye?
10) Music is not bad if rather cliched, sounds like music from "Winds of War" or "War and Remembrance".

Well, I'm happy to see Hines had managed to finish his film and I'll give him a big (and sincerely heart-felt) 'hurray' for it.
I must confess, I think the modeling effects look rather rough - and I still can't figure out those darned FMs! I still don't understand how the legs and the top match. Oh well.
That said, some of the 'live action' sequences - especially the battle scenes with the artillery and such, look much better and much more dramatic.
I'll certainly purchase it and watch. I do hope I'll be pleasantly surprised. But I have a feeling my wife will give me that 'clench jaw' look and leave the room. On second thought, it might be a 'home alone' Saturday afternoon flick - prime time, for me, for all those 50s sci-fi and horror films.

Dammit!!! For the first time ever I wish I was a yank! Wonder if us Brits will ever get it here.
Wilst I don't think the FX were perfect I don't think they were helped by the low frame rate, at least on my PC.

By Odin's teeth, that was terrible. I knew we weren't going to get speilbergesque effects, but these were Ed Wood level effects. Now I know that it has been said that great effects don't in themselves make a film great, and I do agree with that, But really poor effects will ruin an otherwise good film (especially when based on a story as good as TWOTW).
Please don't get me started on the acting. It's as if they got bored half way through casting and said 'well we've got half a cast of half-decent actors, we'll fill up the rest with the first amateur Gilbert and Sullivan operatic society that we bump into.'
And what's with trying to point out Mars in the daylight? Now there's a real Ed wood moment, absolutely no regard for the apparent time of day and any plot and/or continuity clashes.
By Thor's hammer, I'm going to have all those images in my head from the book sharing space with Hines' Ed Wood style tesco blue stripe version.
Still curious enough to want to watch it though.
ps. those FM's are some of the worst designs I've ever seen. I hate them, there's nothing sinister about them, and they're nothing like what's descibed in the book.

Well.. it looks like fun. I'm expecting, after viewing this, American Englishness, Australian (ie. Dick Van Dyke style) cockerknees and some rather cheap effects. Also, Piana looks even more like Freddy Mercury stalking about with his chest bared. However. It doesn't look that bad. The story seems good and faithful. The FM's don't look quite so chicken like on the move. And Miss Elphinstone is a babe. I suppose at least it does now seem to prove the existence of the thing. Fairy Nuff.

Probably a dumb question, but are you RIGHT clicking and selecting 'Save Target as..' rather than just left clicking on the link? I've only just d/l it a little while ago from the first link and it was fine.

I've only just d/l it a little while ago from the first link and it was fine. I've just left clicked on the 2 direct links put up on this thread and I've also tried downloading from Pendragons site but nothing. I've also clicked on refresh but still nothing.

Well, what can I say,I'm impressed! Timmy has managed to save himeself from total embarassment. While I'm not a big fan of the "Chickens with sausage link tentacles", they do indeed look MUCH better moving. From the look of it as well, the legs on the bird-like FM's are the same style we saw in the first trailer of the tripod striding over the artillery. No, the acting isn't the greatest, and we could probably pick apart discrepancies bit by bit, but overall, it's gotten farther than I ever expected. Especially recently due to the lack of information, and I REALLY want to see this movie now. Just hope I cna see it in the theatre too My congrats go out to Hines, although his methods of PR need a little tweaking. Cheers, Dan M.
