Ermm, why on Earth would Jeff Wayne want Dreamworks to back him? GHis version is already a marketable comodity. I thought Sony Pictures were backing it?

Dreamworks helping Jeff - off the beaten track abit there!
Sony are helping with the album/music, but as for his 2007 film, well you now as much as I do and I have been in talks with Jeff. Its safe to say that so far we know of his companies 'Jeff Wayne Music' & 'Ollie Record Productions' for the film, but surely Sony is about in there somewhere.

I wonder who stumped up the $48 million? I presumed it was Sony but they are only mentioned in relation to the music re-release as you say H_C. www.thewaroftheworlds.com/

I know of the 'teaser' poster, I have a batch of them in front of me. The money (most) is from Jeff himself (at a guess). He and his late father (Jerry) put together the £250,000 back in 1977 for the album.
He's sold some 15 million copies since its 1978 release, so that would be a nice little profit, not forgeting the other WOTW related stuff he has done.

On the subject of Pendragon,
I have seen loads of absolute trash get released on DVD no problem and even some cinema releases were so bad you asked who the hell sanctioned them, so I have to wonder what the problem is in getting a distributer.
I am of the thinking its either being blocked or the film isnt finished yet, if its not finished then maybe it would be an idea to take down the date and cast messages from the website just so it doesnt become a negative factor for them later on.

only by real fans of the book though. how many of those will comprise the actual amount of people who go see the movie? probably a very low percentage... so a tenfold increase in the backlash against SS (which would most likely only include people who were fans of the original novel) would probably not matter one bit in the overall scheme of things.

Sony is a huge company with it's thumb in nearly every pie
War of the Worlds is a profitable, but tiny matter to their greater concerns. Just becasue Sony may have a hand in SS's version bears no light on Jeff Wayne whatsoever. I'd be surprised if half of the Sony big wigs in Japan knew who Jeff Wayne was to be honest.

How did Sony Get involved? The Speilberg WOTW is a Paramount production. Paramount is not owned by Sony. Paramount has no connection with Sony. The only connection is if Paramount decided to make a deal with Sony to distribute the film in overseas markets, but even then Sony has nothing to do with the making of the film but is acting strictly as a distributor.
BTW Paramount and Spielberg do not give a crap about the Pendragon film. "I think the backlash by fans would increase tenfold against Paramount if they tried to block Pendragons film"
There are not enough fans of the Pendragon film to create a backlash. I think people do not relise how little publicity has Pendragon films has gotten with the general public. Everyone knows about the Paramount version. Very few people know about the Pendragon version..and most of those are internet geeks. (that is not an insult...I am a geek myself..but it is the truth). The last thing we need is conspiracy theories. Let's just judge each film on their own merits. And Pendragon has done a bad job of marketing the film. If they are trying to keep stuff a secret they have done a damn good job, they have kept it so secret that few people know about it...and that is not Good. Yes, try to keep details about the film secret but at least people know a film is out there.
