So what does everybody think of a sequel? It could be done, and the book sort of left an open ending, what with the Martians scoping out Venus after their failure to take over the Earth. Even the record hinted at a sequel with the epilogue.
Someone mentioned in another thread that Venus could be depicted as a hot, swampy jungle planet, a lot like it was thought to have been a hundred years ago. The Martians get a foothold there, and a hundred years later, attack Earth again, in modern times.
This would be the only acceptable scenario for WOTW set in modern times IMO. If written well, it could make a cool story, and being completely CGI would make it that much more bad arse.
I know, its quite early to be discussing a sequel... but if anyone should do it, its the Wayne team.
So what does everyone think? Good idea? Bad idea?

How about an alternative story? The Artilleryman's dream- imagine if the martians hadn't been killed by the flu and mastered the world- a story following the Artilleryman's crazy gung-ho fight for the Earth. I thought of writing this as a short story from the point of view of someone who stumbles across and joins the last straggling surviv----hang on! That's the Matrix isn't it?!!! Oh, and Star Wars.... Would still maybe make a good story...

If there is one thing Im sure about Jeff is that he would not even think about doing a sequel. His album has never left the limelight, a sequel would take the shine off things. Plus, he's Wellsian, a sequel is not.

I guess it could be possible, as the invasion failed who knows maybe the martians would have looked elsewhere until the time was right to take on earth again. interesting concept. stop giving me ideas HA HA!

Horsell I disagree that JW wouldn't do a sequel. If you look at his Press Release from December he has done a deal for a comic book. Surely that will not just run through the story as told in his album but will develop over the years to come.
I wouldn't rule out a sequel if the first CGI film does well..

Yes, but the comic book is based around his album and uses his name - he's not doing the book himself. It would seem the comic book will be H.Gs story using JWs mechanics. This also applies to the CGI film as Jeff informed me - Jeff Waynes The War Of The Worlds - Adapted From The Classic H.G. Wells Novel

I believe Jeff would do a sequel and anything else that worked creatively and financially.
The comic book may be based on his album but you don't do a comic book deal for a few editions and they will undoubtedly branch out into the characters lives and both in Victorian England and then on into the future. Commercially that makes 100% sense.
The same applies to the film. If he does one, and it does well, rest assured he will do a sequel.

Connections or no connections, business is business. The comic book will run for years and will develop the story. The film, if it makes money, will spawn a sequel. Trust me.

You seem so sure of yourself, Ulla123...
...Do you really think that Jeff Wayne would perhaps go against his principles and risk ruining his WOTW reputation? I for one don't.

Look at it simply
Yes buisness is buisness, but that chance of a sequel slipped by some 25+ years ago when the album came out with nothing ever since. As Jeff is a fan of TWOTW and with all good intentions of releasing all this array of goodies including the 5.1 album and film, he may be incorparting the Flying Machine into the story for the film, but other than that he is seems not to be deviating away from what he set out to do some 25+ years ago - why a change now and turn around something he very clearly loves.

I for one don't. i don't either, thats why i think if he does consider a sequel then it will be a good one. and ulla123 has a point... the almighty dollar, pound, euro, or whatever you're using has the final say.
