A few days ago I spotted a thread on a WOTW forum where someone was asking what a H.R. Geiger designed tripod might look like. Well, I've been scanning through my various Geiger artwork books and I'm gonna attempt to do what I think the design might look like... I'll post my images when I've rendered them to show you what I have so far.

Okay, I've been working on this pretty much all day so far, and I've just finished the "head" of the tripod. Here's a few images and a test animation. Click the link below for the test rotational video members.aol.com/pjvenkman/test.avi

That's fantastic, especially the side view. The body/neck idea looks great.

I think the legs should be complicated elaborite sectioned legs, moving slowly. I just like scare alienlooking huge machines. The heatray, if you will animate it, should be invisible. No light, just desintegration into dust like the Pheonix's victims in X3.

That is some amazing CG! The contours and texture to it are really unique and superbly detailed.
Excellent work I want to see more of!

It's looking good- sadly I couldn't view the movie as I can find NO PLUG-INS WHATSOEVER for quicktime to easily view AVI files. Arses!
Surely for a Giger thing it needs lots of references to bones, tubes, babies and reproductive organs? Or all at once? When transferring some of his work for a gallery display, it was seized by customs under a public indecency act (can't remember which country or be arsed to pull my copy out of ARH+ to find out)- he had to work very hard to prove it was airbrushed 'art' work- I'm surprised they still didn't bang him up good'n'proper for just having such a twisted imagination!

try opening the video link in media player, it should be fine then. But make sure you have the DivX codec installed. Anyways, really small update. I started working on the legs, well the front ones at least. I also upped the bump mapping on the texture to give it more relief and made the eyes slightly reflective.
