Well, the days are now short and it's too cold to fix the car so it must be model building season!!
As one so obsessed with TWOTW, I suddenly have the urge to build a three foot tall fighting machine! (As you do!). With the brain safely engaged I thought "how about actually photographing the process?". I don't have plans as such, just the drawings and paintings from the album. Basically I'm winging it so if anyone has suggestions I'll be grateful.
.....And before anyone asks, no it won't be for sale.
This is the progress so far......
The "toilet seat"
That's what it looks like! I'm using balsa wood for the body because it's light and I love working with the stuff!! This is half inch balsa making the horizontal central piece defining the circumference shape. Note the little sticky outy bit which will be part of the bottom "fin".
Vertical centre struts
Looking like a bubble car shape are the vertical forming struts to define the centre shape. I also glued into place the outer vertical walls of the bottom fin.
Lower body forming struts
These will define the shape of the lower half of the body.
Upper body forming struts
These define the upper body shape.
It needs some sanding when the glue is dry, then I'm going to start cladding. I'm looking forward to starting the hood, it may take a few attempts but it'll be vital to the finished look. The rear horizontal fin will be a challenge too.
As soon as I have some more pics, I'll post them here so watch this space!!
PS I'll be using technical phrases like "sticky outy bit" again as well!
