O.K guys, the news you have been waiting for. Fresh from Jeff Wayne Music, here are the latest details of this Summers re-launch of the international award winning album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds of what the long awaited 'Collectors Edition' set(s) will include. 1. CD's 1+2 - SA-CD - these are 2 CD's each containing two files. One file is a brand new stereo remix built up from the original multi tracks, transferred into the digital domain - sound by sound, track by track and then ENTIRELY remixed. If you only have a stereo system it will select the stereo mix. It is a major step up in sound quality than the current stereo version.
The second file is the 5.1 Surround Sound mix (not some 'enhanced' version which a lot of record companies actually do and then sell it as a surround sound remix. Ours, like the stereo, is a true and totally new remix including ingredients never heard before.
That is why Sony Hardware have backed TWOTW 5.1 remix so they can use it as a true demonstration of what the limits of this technology can produce and will promote it as such. The listener is truly 'in' the sound.
Anyone with a surround sound system will have that system select the 5.1 file rather than the stereo.
The new new remixes represent work started early last summer and will be completed within the next month.
2. CD 3- The Remixes 1979-2005 - these represent the best of what has been remixed through the years, some being hits, others just being excellent renditions of different DJ/Remixers slants on my compositions with samples and my original scores having been provided to them.
There are also a couple of new remixes never before heard.
3. CDs 4-6 - Contain rarities, out-takes, 'special' studio mixes of musical content never before heard, and half of CD 6 being the entire Richard Burton and other actors recorded unabridged script, much of which has also never been heard before.
4. 1 DVD - which does recount the history of the making of the recording, visual clips of rare video footage, and a host of other items you would expect on a DVD of this sort along with additional clips from the development of our CGI film not yet seen by anyone. It is also hoping to be used in a different edited form as the base for a tv documentary.
5. The booklet is also stunning and now up to 80 pages. It all comes bound and is the size of a black vinyl disc. Also coming soon, there will be a huge range of The War Of The Worlds goodies, some 250+ at present, to satisfy all fans and collectors. You can find out more by going to his site at: www.thewaroftheworlds.com - so make a note of it. With much thanks to Jeff Wayne for the above information H_C

Great!, i look forward to selling a kidney to buy it. But 250+ items?, sounds a bit like overkill to me, and who aside from Horsell can afford to buy them. Just Kurious. D.F.

At present I am not sure if any of the items from the 'Collectors Edition' are to be sold as seperates, such as the DVD. Im sure that in time we will find out.

Maybe a few years down the road that'll happen but he (JW) and they (Sony) want consumers to buy the $50, or whatever it costs, box w/ the DVD not just the $15 DVD. This box set is for diehard fans, of which there are many. People may cry the blues about the price but in the end they'll fork it over. I mean, come on, this is JW's MVotWoTW masterpiece BOX SET we're talkin' here. Just my $.02

[glow=green,2,300]..Still looks like iam going to have to buy the extra SACD hardware to be able to enjoy the surround sound experience... Shame really as the REM back catalogue has just been released on CD/DVD & DVD Audio in 5.1 Surround (dolby digital & Dts!!!) with a documentary and other stuff! So you get the CD for standard stereo enjoyment, a 5.1 mix DVD for your DVD player and if you have one a high resolution DVD Audio mix... That's how it should be done! You dont exclude anyone like SACD does! Sorry if this seems a little Anti-Sony, it is a little bit I suppose. I just dont really want to have to fork out for another box to play a certain format (in surround!)!! Especially when other companies have worked around this by just throwing in a DVD with the 5.1 mix on it... Yeeeaarrrggghh all I want to do is get my pants scared off in surround sound!!! [/glow]

I may have gotten this wrong, so forgive me if I give you some duff gen.
If I'm reading the blurb correctly, one file is SACD, which will select SACD sound if you have an SACD player, but will play bog standard stereo if not. The second file ia a 5.1 surround mix, can which means it can probably be bunged into your DVD player and listen to it in surround sound (assuming you DVD player accepts audio CDs, and you have all 5.1 speakers)
Please tell me if I'm wrong, coz I don't know what I'm blahing on about half the time!

This is good news for us fans for sure. I will echo the sentiments that I would have liked a normal DVD version (DTS / DD5.1 or DVD-A) of the music as they are excluding a massive section of the market but hey, it is sony backing it so its to be expected.
Hmm, decision time now. To buy a new SACD system and surround, or make do with what I have? :/
I'll have to see closer to the time. Right now i'm in enough debt as it is, i'll be able to listen to it in SACD on my current system but I know its not the best sound system in the world and that will eventually annoy me enough so i'll end up upgrading. Then, just as I buy my nice new shiny SACD system, sony will announce SACD2 and i'll have to buy all new kit in 2007 :/
Ste.

Lets face it, even if your not a devoted 'hi-tech' guru longing for the best sound system that even God himself (if you believe in him) cant even conjure up, all that vast wealth of goodies you get in the set is enough to keep you smiling for months to come.
I really can't wait for this, and I most certainly can't wait to hear the full 'unabridged' script and extra sounds.
Happy days are hear again.

[glow=green,2,300] Yo Horsell, You might want to check that info back again, but If CD's 1 & 2 are SACD then surely both the Stereo mix and the 5.1 mix will only work with SACD equipment. The SACD format is not compatible with DVD or (as I understand it) regular CD. That is why the manufacturers normally throw a standard stereo mix on the CD, so people dont feel completely left out if they dont own SACD players.
Please, feel free to correct me if iam wrong but this was the case with the Pink Floyd; Dark Side Of The Moon SACD. [/glow]

Jeffs TWOTW is a new mix with a new technology, not to be compared with Pinks DSOTM.
This is what Jeff sent me, word for word

One file is a brand new stereo remix built up from the original multi tracks, transferred into the digital domain - sound by sound, track by track and then ENTIRELY remixed. Hmm, from that wording I would expect it to be a CD only 2.0 new Stereo re-mix on one layer, and the 5.1 SACD mix on the other layer on discs 1 & 2. So it will play in a normal CD player and only play in 5.1 on SACD Multichannel equipment. It is technically possible that there is also a 2.0 SACD on the same disc, however I find it unlikey, but I am open to be proven wrong. So the new Stereo Mix will play on normal hardware, and if you want 5.1 you must have a SACD 5.1 compatible system. That seems clear. The 5.1 mix will only play on SACD hardware, not your normal DVD players. The only question I then have is "is there a 2.0 SACD version on the disc as well as the normal CD Stereo 2.0 and 5.1 mixes". *quick edit* Oh and HC, yes I am sooo looking forward to this its untrue, A new mix will be brilliant and those extra's ... the actors reading the story unabridged ... I can't wait. Slick2097.
