Hi guys,
I've been pondering lately. Do you think we'll see some major battle set-pieces in Spielberg's film? Personally I couldn't see it as War of the Worlds without some kind of actual war. Though from what I've heard of Spielberg concentrating on one family's fight to survive the invasion, it leaves me wondering if he will show some ground/air/sea battles at all, instead of none or glimpses of some, through the eyes of the family.
I mean, presumably he will - and assuming he does, how exactly do you think it'll fit into the film?
(Sorry if this was discussed before)

(Sorry if this was discussed before) Although the focus is on the family Spileberg like to run his movies with tandem plot lines, Ricard Drayfuss in CE3K was the primary plot line while the goverment was the secondary plot line but both merged into one at the end to from the climax. You could have the family splitting, one bit going off with the millitary so we see the fighting first hand and the other with Cruise as he follows the more Wellsian plot lines ending with them merging at the end.

Well there are hummers and other such military weapons in the film...so we know some sort of battle will be shown. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of cg destruction integrated.

Im sure i read somewhere ther will be some tank battles and some jets involved.
probably get zapped by the EMP and the fighting machines rip them apart with their tentacles.

theres a scene which was filmed in virginia where the army meets up with the martians in apparently the big battle where ray's [tom] son joins the army in one last effort with tanks, humvees, jets, soldiers...
or so i am told
i think he dies here...but that's just what i think happens, since he isn't with ray and rachael at the end...

Maybe Tom's son is like the artilleryman, eh? Could be a twist.

"I've been pondering lately. Do you think we'll see some major battle set-pieces in Spielberg's film" That's a Given. People are expecting to see a battle in this film, and Speilberg is not going to dissapoint them. Hey, the guy is the most sucessful producer in Film History for a reason, and he knows that in WOTW you have got to show at least one battle.
