It's been 'officially' stated that the Invaders will not come from Mars. However who's to say they won't come from our Solar System? Maybe from Titan? Pluto? Other Moons/Planets? If they came from somewhere like Mars then people may think it's less believable, since we explored all of Mars and mapped it countless times with Satellites.
What if they're from some planet beyond Pluto, which is slowly drifting away from the Sun? Hence their need for a new home!
Here's another one, what if they actually created life or at least nudged it along on Earth, so that just incase their world would die or become uninhabitable?
They may have planted some of their own on Earth, in hibernation waiting for the right time and conditions.
Talk about the weird weather effects could that be triggered by a Solar flare or even all the planets coming into alignment?
Maybe the story begins with some weird weather & climate changes due to some astronomical event? People believe it's just a natural solar event when in fact it's something being influenced by them?
I'm just throwing about ideas here, but it's definitely got me thinking more now!

I read that SS said they came from a distant planet starved of resources that they need to leave...
So Scotland then?

Blackburn, the bordom capital of the North.
And I think they wont be from our System, or, maybe that alternate dimension (Plays the X-Files theme tune) crap is free.

Lol
But seriously though, a 'distant' planet may have been within our own Solar System? It depends on his definition of 'distant'.
I think it would be more believable if they came from somewhere within our own Solar System. Not to mention some astronomers & scientists theorise that there could many more planets beyond Pluto, although they would probably be pretty dead.

From Uranus! I'm wondering if it will even be told where they come from and why. It seems like such a sudden, wierd attack I bet even the "experts" in whatever areas deal with alien invasion will be like "what the...?!?". Ogilvy doesn't look like the kind of guy who'd be in the know on where they were coming from, maybe Tom Cruise bumps into a dimensional physicist or NASA scientist?! lol.

They could be from one of Jupiters moons like Europa. Copy the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_%28moon%29It has an atmosphere, and they reckon life may exist under the 100Km of water and ice that covers the surface.

LOL this forum is priceless. Many a good laugh on here. I will be sorry when the film comes out as I will miss coming here.
Oh, and I agree, Ogilvy doesn't look like the kind of guy in the know where HE is from either...

Yeah, even in the midst of an alien invasion I'd still be taking anything Ogilvy says with a grain of salt

Are you off somewhere when the films out Ricky B?.. We will still be here. We were here long before anything was announced and I don't expect we'll pack up when it's out. Why should we? In fact, things will probably get busier still.

Yes, I am a w-hore. I would like to stay and discuss the other films (if the Pent one ever comes out) but seriously, although it is hard to do special effects, the Pent film is going to have nothing on SS's effort. SS will make the best War of the Worlds film to date. I have my fingers crossed for Jeff Wayne's effort, but the key is money...

well
ever considered the twin planet theory, that we have a sister planet in verticulsar orbit to our own, it would take about 500,000 years for the planet to eventually align with our own....
just a thought

twin planet theory. or how about this Nibiru theory of another world in a vastly odd eliptical orbit that that takes it out past the back of the sun out far beyond pluto and the Kuiper belt and swinfgs back around this way every 100,000 years.

Given what we know about gravity, such a planet would have been seen before. I like the verticle gravity thing. That would actually work (although I still think Mars would have).

Whats wrong with good old mars? Tiz far away but within reach so distance travelled etc is believable, it has underground ice reserves (according to nassa terraforming plans) and it is vertually unexplored by us so there could be life all over or under it. Plus it is the god of war, the perfect bad guy homeworld.

I would like to know why they put tripods deep in the planet in the first place and then didn't bother to attack until 1,000,000 years later. Being smart they knew that life would evolve (or maybe a Triceratops kicked the nutse out of a tripod and they decided to bury everything and kill off the dinosaurs?). Prehaps they got bored of shooting Barney and friends and wanted to come back so they could have a proper ruck with something?
