A random thought that's been floating in my head. As much as I like Jeff Wayne's WOTW PC game, I wish there was a more contemporary RTS game inspired by Wells' novels.
What about a Victorian Steampunk RTS game incorperating elements from War of the Worlds, The First Men in the Moon, The Time Machine, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and other Victorian sci-fi novels?
Basically the races would be Martian, Human, and Selenite.
The Martians would have their infamous tripods, and upgrade them into even more powerful war machines
The Humans would start with basic infantry units and conceptual war machines...armored quadricycles, trucks, wind wagons...and depending on research could branch off to further their technology, gaining giant armored boiler tanks, land ironclads, hydrogen blimps, biplanes (a la Leonardo Da Vinci), then cavorite powered air ships... or focus on stealing and reconfiguring Martian technology: a man made tripod?
-Research in Moreau's genetic engineering to get hybrid units, or go the Frankenstein route and tamper with putting brains into metal bodies...creating steam powered robots and early "mech" suits. (It all sounds quite unrealistic, but with beautifully rendered machines emmiting steam with clicking rotating gears it'd be quite something to see)
The Selenites focus on creating hordes of Selenites rather than machines. Archers, Enforcers, Specialists (mind controllers, healers), mind controlled Selenite beasts (moon bulls, Raphas, etc.)--vehicles would include flying balloons and various creature mounts.
That's pretty much all my ideas. Boy, I have too much time on my hands
Anyone elses thoughts/ideas?
