Well, since I was the one asking Rob about such a board, it seems appropiate that I make a first post in here. So here goes...
I never played any of the WOTW computergames, because I don't have a PC but an iMac, and I never had an Playstation. I only just bought an Xbox late 2003.
The future seems bright though, there's as possibility new WOTW games are coming up (either based on Wayne's work or on Spielberg's movie) and I hope some of them will find their way onto the Xbox as well.
I also think a boardgame would be cool. Just look at the quality of boardgames over the last couple of years (Setlers of Catan for example). Also, a lot of wargames ((old) Avalon Hill ones for example) are very good. I've got Storm Over Arnhem, which is a classic.
I'm curious where it will all lead and what kind of games we are gonna get.

Well if War of the Worlds fever truly hits like it may do this year we really should get something. Having said that, there is NOTHING on the Interweb about new games of any description.. at all. Unless any developers are being really sneaky and keeping it hush hush, but I'm sure we would have heard something. The way I see it, I wouldn't expect to see any new games this year unless it's from a big company with enough manpower to throw at a job like this. Mind you, isn't the WotW Half life 2 mod due out sometime this year? Here's the homepage for the mod if anyone hasn't seen it... www.scifiheaven.net/wotw-mod/

There been classic games in the past (perhaps not WotW) that had to do with alien invasions.....one such classic is X-Com. I'd love to give the WotW game a go but its like a good woman....hard to find.

X-Com: Enemy Unknown was one of my favourite games back in the day. I still have a copy but it doesn't work properly on my system (bloody DOS). I've been looking without success for a Windows version of it (one was released but I can't find a copy).. Many a long hour spent on that game.

Oh my god nerfy, I used to be part of the Xcom fan community back when I was a 15 year old. I used to do stuff for a website called Xcommand. I loved enemy unknown and the like, they were truly terrifying games.
There was always a connection the War of the Worlds in them, I used to love the funky music that came on when one of your interceptor intercepted a UFO. Brilliant, that really takes me back.
Enemy unknown was the best but Terror from the deep and Apoplypse were good too, Inteceptor was a bit thin of plot and gameplay. The new one was supposed to be Xcom Alliances but that got shelved, shame really because I bet it would have been excellent.
They released a version that worked on windows called Xcom Collectors edition, maybe some copies floating around ebay.

Just to let everyone know....my copy of the special edition had Apoplypse the only game playable. UFO and Terror loaded fine but had garbled text which is a real bummer. There was no official patch from Microprose but I did find this......... www.xcomufo.com/bugfix.txt

I'd have to agree with Nerfy about the lack of any new games. I first saw screenshots for the PC version about 2 years before the game was released. Since there is no mention of anything happening at the moment I wouldn't even dream of expecting something before 2007 at the earliest.
Looking at the way most game development seems to go (delays of years, eg. halflife 2, doom 3), we are looking at a long wait before anything arrives. The best we can hope for is either a mod for an existing game (Like the halflife2 mod Nerfy mentions), or a new game that will perhaps coincide with the JW film.

I don't think I really WANT to see a new game this year as this will surely be a rushed effort.

. . . unless they have already been in production for a long time, keeping ahead of the competition . . . We should see some of Jeffs games this year.

Just a quick note to those who have an urge to pit themselves against a Alien Invasion. You can download a demo of this new game which is in developemnt. This might be of interest to X-Com fans. UFO: ALIEN INVASION ufo.myexp.de/?id=about

Thanks for that, Slayer..alas, being a dial up peasant, the d/l is too big for me. Hey, I understand. Hard to believe that I too suffer from dialup. Our portion of Oakdale is within weeks of Broadband (so they promise) and months of DSL. May I make a suggestion? Its not piracy (since its freeware)...perhaps some bloke (did I just say bloke....I been hangin out here with you limeys too long ) anyway, someone you know that does have highspeed can download and burn a copy for you..**cough David cough**, ;D

[glow=red,2,300]Wow Horsell_Common! Thats some major news!
Regarding the awesome game X-Com (or UFO: Enemy Unknown as it was called over here), there are several imitators (look up UFO: Aftermath) and I've heard there are fan-made editors and patches about that might help get the original running again. [/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]Yeah, I've been a bit of a UFO fan for awhile, too. Joined the franchise at Terror from the Deep. I totally agree on the lack of squeezable juices from Aftermath. It was a shocker. I think some companies are focusing so much on innovative new engines that can do this or that (Aftermath had a 'simultaneous move' engine that is just a regular real-time strategty engine with a glorified pause function!) than actually smoothing out the code and checking to make sure that it plays well.
Fortunately, Rage and GT Interactive put a bit of work into War of the Worlds. Hopefully some more games are in the pipe for us soon.
Keep your tentacles crossed.[/glow]

Unfourtunatley neither Rage or GT interactive exsist anymore, so hopefully whoever picks up the reigns will do just as good, if not better of a job.
