Hi all, One of the most important and interesting scenes that were left out of the Pendragon Pictures movie was "Dead London". The only thing you see in the movie is a dead woman (in itself a good scene) and a few fields that represent the great 19th century capital . There have been a lot of theories about why "Dead London" was not in the movie. It doesn't matter what the rael reason was, I do know that it isn't difficult or expensive to do this scene right. In the great Books documentary from the Learning Channel, the Dead London scene is present! And it gave me goosbumbs when I first saw it and heard the Martian cry. The scene is simply done but it works. Even the Machine in the park looks cool. A lesson for Pendragon! If The Learning Channel can do this scene right, then you could have too. Especially with a budget of 40 million, as you claimed you had. I've uploaded this piece of film so you can view it. Enjoy!!! huizen.daxis.nl/~twotw/Greatbooksdeadlondon.WMVJust right click it and save as... Johan

Thanx Johan, that was highly entertaining. I must see the whole thing now! At first when I heard the Martian I thought it was singing, but it illustrates the feeling of the book nicely. Is that Donald Sutherland doing the voice over?

Yep, that's Donald Sutherland alright. And he does a very good job too. The footage are actually in colour, but somehow I can only record it in black/white... FutureDirector: I'm not saying this is THE way to do Dead London, not at all. But this clip does show that you don't need much to film it in a believable way... Johan

Excellent. Moody and creepy; everything the Pendragon picture was not. The howling was truly haunting.
I wonder if Hines's peculiar child would have been better if filmed in B&W like this, instead of the LSD induced nightmare we got.

Wow!, that was creepy. I really enjoyed that short clip. Many thanks for sharing it with us Johan.
Its a shame the video is not widely available as I and many would love to have that in our collection.

Blimey, they've done their site up! It wasn't on there a few months ago, I had to get mine from eBay...
$4.99! It's a steal! Shame they've not put it on DVD...
I highly recommend it, damn good show, I've just been watching it again. Apart from the clearly cheap but very deftly made reconstructions, there's also an excellent cast of talking heads, Brian Aldiss in particular is very enthusiastic.

Just ordered my copy of the video off the "Discovery Channel" website. Not exactly a good price for a video, including shipping it came to $26.94 - £15.97, but it will be worth it as I have heard very good things about the documentary
