Wow, the hostility of it all. My suggestion of a B&W viewing experience obviously will not correct all that everyone seems to believe is wrong with this movie. However, what it does do is alleviate a lot of the distraction from the various changes in lighting and filtering. For me, it was much easier to watch.
In all honesty, I was just as disappointed as most others upon my initial viewing of the film. But as I watched it the second time, I appreciated it more probably because I knew what NOT to be expecting. I like it in the same way I do the original Godzilla, or Night of the Living Dead. It has a very 1950 or 60’s high aspiration but low-budget production feel about it.
I was not desperate for a “period” version of War of the Worlds. Pendragon’s film is what it is. When I saw it sitting on the shelf at Wal-Mart before it was even scheduled to be released, I kind of knew what my $8.94 was buying me. So perhaps I was not expecting too much of this 3 hour film. So was each minute worth the 5 cents it cost me? In that regard, I think so.
I am just trying to be helpful for those who want to enjoy the movie. I still watch the 1953 Pal version. I first saw it as a child in the late 70’s and still love it to this day. Another suggestion for those who are troubled (in the Pal version) by the visible wires holding up the war machines, which is abundantly clear on DVD, try changing the TV or DVD player from “vivid” to the “theatrical” setting. This more or less is like a brightness adjustment. Theatrical is darker, and as such you generally cannot see the wires.

Thomas, don't take to much notice of it, your idea was that of a good one, helpfull to those and we certainaly appreciate it, same as we appreciate any views be them good or bad - as long as they stick with the boards guidelines. Being a new member you may not be fully aware of the problems surfaced over the past 12 months due to this film, something that makes our mod jobs even harder, and something we wish many would stop and realise before posting. You can say the Pendragon section is devided and you are not far wrong and us sitting slap bang in the middle of it TRYING to keep EVERYONE happy - but sometimes its not that easy. Many expected a lot because we were promised alot and sadly too late to turn back the clock, but if you look beyond that smoke screen which many have and look at this film as a fan film then it cusions the blow.
Speaking from a fans point of view and not of a moderator, I am just as hacked off with the outcome of this film. Some think I have turned a bklind eye and have some kind of faith that this film is going to be (when I view it) good - how wrong they are its almost laughable. When someone annouces a big budget film going into millions, you see no such sign you come to expect like I did its not all above board. Even I was thinking this film was never going to be released but I was proved wrong. Hay ho!, I've moved on. Now I have the film winding its way towards me. At this moment in time I now for a fact the film is not a complete waste of time and I now for a fact for me the film is not totally 100% 'crap' as it contains scenes from the trailor that I actually do like, which tells me the film is not what some are making it out to be, but then Im easily pleased and expected these kind of things with such a low budget film.
Im not expecting much from this film, never have, never will and if there is one thing that I am really angry about is the fact when us mods get dragged through the mud on other sites because we are trying to keep the peace on our own site to stop people from getting upset, angry and feel unwelcomed.
All this because of a film.
