By now, just about everyone who wanted to purchase and see this movie has. I must say, that I was very disappointed like many others. However, I have a suggestion that may help you enjoy the movie a little bit more. I have a 70 inch LCD widescreen home theater. As you can imagine on such a detailed system, every flaw is terribly obvious in this movie.
Many of the complaints revolve around different light filters being used at various points for reasons unknown. Nighttime scenes that were obviously shot during the day, poor (as well as overuse) of blue screening. Poor composition or blending of different elements of the scene. No need to really go on, you get the picture.
So what did I do? I changed the setting on my television from glorious COLOR to BLACK and WHITE. In my opinion, most of the glaring CG, blue screen, and inexplicable changes in lighting, coloring, and hue, disappeared. It’s almost as though this movie was meant to be seen in B & W. Given the period of the film, it’s perfectly appropriate.
All I can say is give it a try. To change my TV to black and white, I just had to fumble around in the menu screen, yours might work similarly. Just don’t forget how to change it back to color, or your wife will kill you!
I’d be interested in seeing what other think of my suggestion.

[glow=purple,2,300]I'd say your idea is a damn good one!! Perhaps those who haven't sold/returned their copies could give it another viewing in B&W, and post their opinion on it?
Often, I will watch a modern film in black & white, just to see how it might have looked in the days before color (how sad is that!) and some films do look better in the old B&W. It's a lot more atmospheric - probably because I was brought up on old films like Them!, The Thing From Another World, Forbidden Planet, etc. [/glow]

Unfortunately, there is no “edit movie” option on my remote to delete the unnecessary dragging on of virtually every scene.

[glow=purple,2,300]Actually, you may have a couple of options to create a similar "edited movie" effect.
Assuming PP have split the movie into Chapters and Scenes, you can skip to the next scene when it starts to drag on.
Alternatively, some DVDs have a 'bookmark' option, where the player can store a 'virtual scene marker'. You can then use these bookmarks to cut the scene short. EG: Set Bookmark 1 at the start of a scene, Bookmark 2 when is starts to drag, Bookmark 3 at the start of the next, etc. Then, program the DVD to play Bookmark 1 and 3, (skipping the dragging part between 2&3), etc. You'd have an abrubt cut-to-scene, and the music may not flow, but the scenes WOULD be shorter. Not all DVDs do this, and of those that do, some retain the info in the player even if the disc is changed, but some players wipe it when ejected.
Just a thought![/glow]

Boy, you guys REALLY want a period version of WOTW ,don't you. Sadly, the methods you use will not make the film much better. Color or Black and White, it will still stink.

Enough now. For once I would like to come onto this section of the board without seeing one bitchy comment about Pens film.
What is it, 'everyone's a critic' month.

And as well as turning off the colour setting of your TV, you can also try digging a hole in your lounge floor and burying yourself up to your neck, smearing your head with honey and breaking open a jar of Amazonian soldier ants. I can guarantee that you'll be too busy worrying about your eyeballs being slowly nibbled out to worry about what's on the telly!

Why bend over backwards trying to make a crap film anything other than what it is?
Well, guys.
In addition to editing it, and watching it in black and white, why not squint your eyes a tad to make the special effects even better, and put the bastard on mute, and THEN synchronize Jeff Wayne's CD to the movie to make it sound better!?!?
Honestly, it never ceases to amaze me how people refuse to admit that this film is a turd.
If you want a perios piece, sit down and read the book.
A five year olds' imagination could put "Timbo's Walking Adventure" to shame ANY day.

Why go to all the bother of slagging this movie off just for the sake of it? We know it's a duffer, so why keep moaning on and on about it like it's personal? At least someone's come up with an idea that might just make the experience of watching it a little less painful.

Buddy, I'm just commenting on the hillarity of it all.
You say "At least someone's come up with an idea that might just make the experience of watching it a little less painful"
Well, that's like saying someone has the option to swallow a cup of needles. Nomatter how you look at it, it totoally sucks. BUT, if you drench those puppies in syrup, it makes it a tad bit easier.
Point being, if it sucks, and you know it... Ummm... Why do it?
And in a way it is a bit personal. I preordered this pile of a film, with all the promises in the world from the Director that it was nothing short of amazing. Much of what he said was a flat out lie, and I (and many others) bought into his crap, and pre ordered it, etc.
As fans of the book, he took that natural trst, twisted it, and then spat in our faces.
Sure it isn't quite that dramatic, but Timbo did tell lies to move units.

Honestly, it never ceases to amaze me how people refuse to admit that this film is a turd. I take it you have seen the movie to make that comment?, well I haven't so what give's you the impression myself or anyone else should share your same thoughts. If you have seen the film and you don't like it, you've said your bit, move on. I dont give a flying monkeys ass if Hines did or did not tell us porkies, I basically don't care. The movie that he said was being made, that others said it 1/never exsisted, 2/ never would be released has, well exsists and has been released. OK, to me the first impression is its a low budget movie and that's what I have always envisioned it to have been from such a small company. For the last few years I for one have not seen this to be some grand production adventure. I will take the film and except it as it is - a low budget afair I don't want somebody telling me its crap and thats BEFORE I've even had the chance to see it and comment on it myself. For example, I like the film 'Raise The Titanic!'. It was a cinamatic disaster. This huge budget film that was made in 1980 with a bill of £6 million that finally cost £30 million, it flopped big time. How do you think the Titanic fans thought about that, the same as WOTW fans think now. I like the film, its clever but god knows how many people I know in the Titanic community who can't stand it but atleast they have the decency NOT to keep ramming it down people throats with every oppoutunity they get. As I say, if you've seen the film and don't like it, so what, move on - please, tomorrows another day, and kindly stop spoiling it for those who are yet to view it.

HC - When will you get to see and review the film? Some UK members seem to have had their copy already delivered from Amazon.
