The problem is not just with the SFX. You would still have the crappy acting and the inept camerawork to deal with. It's hopeless. it's like trying to save a dying cancer patient with aspirin.

Er, the famous Episode 1 edit was basically that- an edit of finished footage. While WOTW could easily survive a removal of 50% of the filler in the movie, some things like the Thunderchild sequence and the ultra slow horse and cart sequences are beyond saving. And turning the movie B/W (or at least regrading the footage to be consistant) may help the movie somewhat, but that's another level of work and time to basically recomposite the whole movie (even in a truncated form)... A lot of work but interesting.
However, as for redoing the FX, well that is a major task indeed. I doubt anyone who does CGI for a living would even consider doing all that work- especially for something they could never release publically (without being sued for copyright infringement). And remember- at least Hines had the advantage of the greenscreen footage to composite- anyone trying to redo some effects would have to hand mask every frame...
For all the complaints about the FX in the movie, it should be made clear that good 3D SFX ARE NOT easy to do. Just because the 3D tools are accessable, does not mean the operators suddenly become talented. I mean, everyone who owns a computer has a word processor but I'm not seeing a lot of novels being written...

If someone wants to edit, I would be happy to replace the foul sausage pods with the awesome Jeff Wayne tripods.

I just want to come out in defence of this film... I think ( personally ) that after downgrading it from a major film release and looking at it from the point of view of a bigger budget than most ''Fan Film'' it's actually quite good. I've been a big fan of the Star Wars fan films, the effects there are ropey as too the acting, but when you accept that for what it is, you can enjoy them. Ok, Tim Hines said it would be amazing this, fantastic that.... Well be real, of course he would... he wants to sell it Think of that guy's post on E-bay.... It's called marketing. He got us all hooked, he got us all buying it, and for that he is very clever. For my part anyway, I will enjoy this as a ''fan film'' as I am a fan and enjoy it for what it is. ;D I'll take from it the bits I like and leave alone the bits I don't. Oh... and yes, I have got it.
