Stephen King's "The Langoliers"...
3 hours long, crap FX, slightly dull in places, but very faithful to the book, and quite gripping.
I can see this film being the same, it'll be strangely watchable , despite all the shortfalls.

That's what really bothers me. The same thing happened with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Not the big screen version of Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp but a stripped to the basics Hallmark version.
Faithful, but extremely dull!

[glow=purple,2,300]Thank You MikeH!!
Something has been bugging me for 3 weeks now. I saw that episode of Dr Who with Rose saving her father, and I KNEW they'd ripped it off something but couldn't remember the name.
'twas The Langoliers! No wonder I couldn't remember the name! Langoliers indeed! [/glow]

Yeah, I remember the Langoliers. Still have the DVD in fact, although I should dump it. Great idea, started ouot very well in the film and then deteriorated into rubbish. Such a shame.

It does not matter how faithful it is to the original, a bad movie is a bad movie. I guess it depends on how much you can overlook. And that Hines has made such extravagant claims for his film does not help matters any.

thats what peed me off more than anything, if he said it was a cheapo version right from the start i would have given the film more slack.
but PP and TH cried wolf from the start. oh its 100 mil with michael cain and sfx from star wars etc.
then cancelled, then 40 mil, then 12 then 10 then one mil. More delays and the same grandios claims from PP and TH when all what they said was bull!
not good enough.

I've got some news for you David - not only has he used Lego but the Martians are made from one of those Lego technic kits. Some of the extras are those little Lego folk aswell.

I would not be surprised if "Thunderchild" turns out to be the Revell Model Kit for the USS Maine...the one that blew up in Havana Harbor in 1898 and started the Spanish American war....with a British flag stuck on.

Langoliers indeed! [/glow] Yes... I spotted that..... Even commented on the Dr Who fan site...... I thought it was a 'better version' than the over long TV movie or mini-series..... FX were better too (although not that much better One thing that occurs to me with this...... Timothy Hines has done well to get this film out on DVD..... There is a chance that he could do well with it. OK..... Not the megabucks from a theatre release but maybe a fair return..... Well then..... This is speculative as I have not seen this film and consequently have no, valid opinion of it...... but for those who have; What if he were to produce a 'director's cut' in a couple or three years? Not one with extra footage but maybe trimmed of excesses and with the special effects tweaked a little...... 'Day for night' in the scene where they are watching the starts in broad daylight..... New digital renderings of some of the CGI such as the reputedly poor Thunderchild sequence? Maybe there could be a poll of "changes that TH could make in his 'special edition'."? Just (as they say) a thought? Zoe

Are you thinking of the Lindberg kit of the USS Olympia, a Span-Am War armoured cruiser? Agh, Jesus, I can't believe I weighed in about a model-kit!!! Anyhoo, from those early 'behind the scenes' pics on Timbo's website ages ago, the Thunder Child appeared to be a classic 1890s 'turtleback' torpedo-boat destroyer in glorious CGIness. Potentially promising, seeing as they had decent reference material (David Lyons' book on early TBDs visible in said image). Shame that, judging by various reviews, they fecked it up...

That sounds too expensive for Pendragon. It's most probably a piece of wood with some matchsticks stuck in it.

A lot of people are mentioning the TV show "Mystery Science Theater 3000" in reference to the effects from this film.....and from what I have seen no wonder.

I know you guys are joking, but, for people that think you aren't, the Thunderchild sequence was CG.

Maybe Hinez shoulda made his epic from LEGO, damm sight cheaper and the flags are in the right scale. There was a short film "Star Wars in Lego: Revenge of the Brick" on the Cartoon Network recently, which I recorded. The CGI was astonishingly good-- much too good, I thought, for a Lego parody of Star Wars! How I wish-- OH how I wish! -- the CGI in Pendragon's WotW was as good.

Maybe there could be a poll of "changes that TH could make in his 'special edition'."? A popular thought. I had a friend over today and I showed him the-- er-- "highlights" of Pendragon's film. He said that perhaps someone could do a "fan edit" and replace the awful CGI with better effects. Sure, I'd love to see that... but it won't happen. Hines doesn't have the money for it, and even if he did I don't think he has the talent to do it properly. We could fantasize about some die-hard Wells fan buying up the rights for the film and re-doing it... but that's never happened with any film, and I don't see it happening here. Hopefully, we'll enjoy the Jeff Wayne version in a couple of years!

Unfortunately, it would have looked much better if they had used that. You're joking of course... but I'm not.
