Friends, Wells fans, forum members, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Hines, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Hines. The noble AHB
Have told you Hines was dishonest;
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Hines answer'd it.
Here, under leave of the AHB and the rest -
For the AHB are honourable men;
So are they all, all honourable men -
Come I to speak in Hines' funeral.
He was my hope, faithful and true to Wells:
But the AHB says he was dishonest;
And the AHB are honourable men.
He hath brought many investors home to Pendragon
Whose modest sums did the production's coffers fill:
Did this in Hines seem dishonest?
When that fans have cried, cleave to Wells' text!
Hines hath consented:
Dishonesty should be made of more selfish stuff:
Yet the AHB says he was dishonest;
And the AHB are honourable men.
You all did see that which was announced long ago;
Hines proclaimed "We do not have a ton of money";
Twas said not once but thrice: was this dishonesty?
Yet the AHB says he was dishonest;
And, sure, they are honourable men.
I speak not to disprove what the AHB spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What causes you then, to prejudge him?
O wisdom! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Hines,
Where the AHB have placed him before his time;
And I must pause till it come back to me.
