I found this posted upon www.waroftheworldsfilm.com forum from one of the members. Maybe one of our U.S members could check it out for us to see if its true. 'Just want over to my neighborhood “Blockbuster,” and they said the release date for Pendragon Pictures “War of the Worlds” is Tuesday, June 14-flag Day. The price is tentative to be $14.99.'H_C

I don't know about that, it possible but Blockbusters are owned by Viacom who are in league with Paramount, that would be a little sticky I would have thought.

Not Really. Motile. Time Warner films own HBO,but Warner Motion Pictures has a deal for first run on it's films with HBO competitors, Showtime, because it was more profitable for Warners then giving it to HBO. Coporate managment allowed it because overall it benefited the Coporation more then having Warner's films on HBO. Blockbusters offers films on DVD that are in direct competion with Paramount DVD's all the time. What is interesting is that the 1953 WOTW Special Edition DVD is coming out June 15th. I have a feeling that release might well swamp the Hines project.

Is it not more likely that in actual fact its the special edition George Pal WOTW that blockbusters is selling in June and not the Pendragon movie...? Its the only WOTW that comes up in all the searches that I have done on Blockbuster.
I wouldnt have thought Blockbusters would stock cheapo DVD's from the Pendragon distributer anyway, maybe for rental at first but not first line sales, take for instance "spider" an ultra dire low budget film, they had it to rent but not until many months later did they put it up for sale as ex rental.
Like I said its possible Blockbuster will sell it, they will know it will ride Spielbergs wake in June/July.

I will be snooping about down the show next weekend seeing what I can get from the many region one retailers down there - maybe they can shed some light - maybe they are in the dark like us, who knows.

I am now begining to wonder if they have gotten films mixed up. I have a feeling that this is the Paramount 1953 'Special Edition' DVD they are referring too as that is released on that same date. That sounds a lot more likely to me. From what Hines said in the most recent press release, I don't think they've even completed the film yet. It will probably be several weeks before they complete mastering the DVD.
