"Anything could happen in the next 30 days!" If Pendragon finished the film tommorrow, they could not get book it into theaters on 30 days notice. '"Well- we haven't heard anything from Pendragon for a while " Which is crazy from a marketing and promotion viewpoint. I will bet anybody A hundred bucks--or 50 pounds,..that the film does not make it into theaters on March 30th. I agree. The thing is that there is so much Pendragon could have been doing to promote this film using the Internet. Remember 'The Blaire Witch Project'? On a tiny budget Hexen Films made sure that EVERYONE knew about their film before it was released. They stimulated demand. If Pendragon wanted to they could easily promote their films using a better designed website - there's is a mess, to be honest . Unless they are trying a 'Blair Witch Hoax' in reverse..... convincing everyone that the film is a hoax so.... Nah! I shall end up paranoid too if I go down that road I don't really think they are serious. In fact when I watched the actors talking about it on the promo THEY didn't look serious either! When I was involved in theatre, many years ago, we did things just to improve our CVs and to help us get Equity cards. Some of them were terrible and we rarely got paid but we were desperate. The actors on that promo looked how we felt And when Anthony said "It is a pleasure to work with so many talented people" his cheeky smile said it all Zoe

I have given up on speculation and am merely waiting for the end of this Month. If that date comes and goes, that will be the final proof I need that this project was all hype and no real substance.
I agree with the opinion that I don't think Tim Hines is deliberately trying to lead us up the Garden path but rather that he is trying to oversell his movie and in doing so he seems to be advertising more than he can deliver.
It is almost like a play where the lead actor has failed to turn up and the audience is waiting, so they are trying to stall for time. At this point we are not even sure the actor will turn up at all, and very soon the audience will simply walk out...

I sometimes wonder if creating all this speculation isn't part of some strange marketing strategy. If it is, I'm not sure it's the best way to go, but as I said earlier, it certainly has the fans talking. Will someone wake me up when the Dvd comes out?

Conspiracy, schmiracy, PP couldn't organise a pis*sup in a brewery, it's as simple as that. At the same time, Hinesey is a Walter Mitty type. Put the two together...

well, quite frankly 'The Seatle ArtScam Picture Co' has sucked the pleasure out of this whole experience for me. They have treated the fans like a bunch of tw*ts all the way down the line. PJ didn't act like a total 'couldn't give a crap about the fans' buffoon when making LOTR - and look at him now on kongisking.net - DAILY DIARY! NO SECRETS - NOTHING TO HIDE. RESPECT TO THE FANBASE!. Never before have I known an enterprise with so much potential manage by lack of any form of PR or communication mangaged to alieniate the only potential word of mouth fanbase it had going AND manage NOT TO LET ANYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW IF THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO GET RELEASED AT ALL!. This idea that the silences is part of a marketing campaign is total madness - "So what'd your marketing campaign, boys?" "keep it a secret, say nothing. pretend it's not getting released. make no concessions to the fans. deny everything. put off trailer releases, make no cinema announcement, no press, no ads - nothing - keep em guessing boss!" "great idea - and how is that going to benefit us" "well those 16 guys that spent the last five years arguing about it on the forum that no one but them guys who are arguing about it ever read will be SOOO totally PISSED when they see it released on the 30th" "Yeah cool - that'll show those ungrateful disbelievers - so how is that going to help me make back the $42million dollars, and the rest we need to turn a profit ?" "eergg..duuh!!..dnnoo..DAMM." "don't worry guys - it's not finished anyway - we've got another 10 years to go yet. I can make $42million last a VERY LONG TIME!!" Once again - I advise anyone to get a copy of Oshii's AVALON and see what a REAL MOVIE can be made for $6million dollars. Best movie you've never heard of you'll ever see - see what a REAL moviemaker can do - stop pretending this is a 'new wave' and all that balloney... www.movie-page.com/dvd/reviews/avalon.htmWells was the genius - his work deserves more respect - and were going to be picking up the tab for PP experiment in silent marketing - and therefore so do we!

"it certainly has the fans talking." But no one else. And sorry, but the hardcore Wells fans are not, repeat, not enough to make even a 12 million dollar film profitable in a theartical release.
The Blair Witch Project comaprasion is an excellent one. They did a film on a even smaller budget then Pendragon has, but the film makers knew how to market, got a real distriubutor, and got the public..not just the fans but the public...talking about the film before it opened. None of which Pendragon has done. I have to admit these attempts to portray Pendragon's silence as some brilliant marketing ploy don't really understand how the film business works.

I'd be happy if they just put up one single frame showing decent CG and live-action footage. No need to make a long video out of it, just one frame showing that they can actually make decent CG and composite it with decent live action footage would do. Quite frankly, the few 'high-res' images I've found on the web just look awful: I can't believe they're serious about releasing the movie in four weeks if those are the best they can do. This one, for example: forums.eveofthewar.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=48&pos=1To me that looks like the live action was shot on DV or Digibeta, blown up, and then dropped over a bad CG background with some orange glow dumped in the middle. Whatever is going on, it seems to me that there's something very, very odd about this whole thing.

I have to admit these attempts to portray Pendragon's silence as some brilliant marketing ploy don't really understand how the film business works. Well crikey! Silly me, and others, for trying to have a sense of humour (not to mention an opinion) about all this rather than running around like a headless chicken, shouting 'Tim Hines is a Liar/ extortionist/ member of the New World Order' (delete as applicable) at anyone who'll listen. There now appear two new camps on this board.. 1) Those who really want to see this film happen but are suffering Titanic proportioned sinking feelings at the moment (put me down for this one). 2) The usual suspects. It's very easy, on the whole, to see who's in which.. especially the latter. This whole thing is all very odd, I agree, and the signs aren't good, but let's keep some perspective on it. Putting forth humorous/ half serious new opinions here is no worse than repeating the same old stuff we've been hearing since the trailers were released, with every new development (or not) being another threadbare string to that rather knackered and well overused bow.

I personally resent being put into either ONE or the other camps. It's a very divisive policy which doesn't represent reality and merely creates the artificial perception that there are two camps - a them and an us..which is blatantly not true. Why can't I be both ? I am BOTH 1 & 2 nerf.. ...and yes it is a knackered, tired and very stale subject but if this was about a $42 million dollar remake of Muppets take manhatten then I very much doubt anyone would give a crapola... I consider the potential impoverishment of one of perhaps 20 genuinely original 'genre creating' and classic sci-fi works is not acceptable. the idea that something 'public domain' can be garbaged without the 'public' having an opinion or cast in the matter is of great concern. Are we to allow those who have 'the money' to be allowed to run unchecked into any and all matters of life ? Isn't that why the big bucks mega corps are poisoning our planet and modifying our genetics - for profit or for glory? If all the apologista and 'wait-and-see' crew had been shouting in unison 12 months ago we may have achieved something. As it is the usual suspects happen to be in the minority becuase the majority of people are too impotent to act. We've all taken this line about 'him being a fan' to mean he can have carte blanche to produce half-arsed crud. just beacuase he's a fan doesn't make him responsible or competant. I still wonder how a first time director managed to get hold of so much money - I really do.. so that's why I won't sit and be silent - if this was an open and honest production then there would be no concern but somethings not right in the state of denmak. Sitting silent is why we get poll tax backed by policeman caving in the skulls of protestors with their batons, it's why we have a 95% fuel duty, wars carried out in our names, polluted and poisoned food etc etc - because too many people just SIT ON THE FENCE AND DO NOTHING BUT SHUSH those who raise the alarm. It's our right to be annoying and offensive - in fact I consider it my duty. There is nothing more likely to encourage the rise of evil and mediocrity than the sheeps shepharding themselves...which is what we have seen over the last 2000 years... Yes this maybe JUST a movie but the principle crosses into everything in your life. It is quite obvious the moneylenders have NO say in the matter of this film, just like the fans - because their is NO executive producer and the producer is a long time 'fellow thespian' SG - this is a VERY rare scenario... (btw there is no anger in my post so please don't 'read any into it' thx) (bt-btw - I really do hope this film is released and that it is GOOD. if so timmy will get my dollars and with it the 'license' to make more films - if not well who knows - seattle seems to run on very different rules to most places..)

Ok, I take your point about the camps thing.. but it was a very loose way of looking at things and my own opinion. You did use some unfortunate phrases there though, Flynn. 'Raising the alarm' and 'having the right to be annoying and offensive' to name them specifically. To my mind both of those phrases are negative and, therefore, counter-productive. I am as passionate about War of the Worlds as anyone here but I really can't see the point in having an aneurism about a film. We don't own this film but there are those who *seem* to think that they do and that they can go on and on about Hines has betrayed them. What's the point? I really can't see it. Also, using the poll tax riots/ police as an analogy is a little extreme, I thought. Someone having a different opinion to you is not the same as a real life truncheon to the head in anyone's book. You are free to state your opinions, as am I. I am quite capable of keeping my own personal opinions seperate from my Moderating capacity here. Actually, on reflection, I see nothing wrong with sitting on the fence.. Although, I have to admit that fence is a little rickety. No anger here ether, btw.

no worries nerf - I'm easy with what you say and 'somewhat agree' with your reply...but I would say that sitting on that fence too long may lead to you finding out that the ground has been shifting underneath it!!

Please, the last thing we need in this forum are political rants... There is a forum for that.
"the idea that something 'public domain' can be garbaged without the 'public' having an opinion or cast in the matter is of great concern."
It's called freedom of speech. If a book or play is in the public domain anybody from Speilberg to a local high school drama club has a right to make it into a film or play. God help us if some kind of "public commitee' decides what or who can make films. Look at the kind of films that are popular and you have an idea of what we would get. I think that Hines has blown it, but I will defend his right to make the film.

I am THE first person to defend Tim's rights to make the film - I simply said we should ALSO have the right to moan and berate his efforts - please read the context of my post..
political rants - they seem to have NO place in anyone's life anymore - there's is far to much 'entertainment media' to be debated for that!!!I will continue to 'mix it up' when I see the metaphor is appropriate unless or until I get banned..
cheers,
FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOR ALL IS MY MOTTO!!!

All this news about the PP film is a little like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle - without a box picture.
It is clear an awful lot of us are worked up over the film, you can see that when reading posts. It is up to PP to release 'if' any news from today forward about the film. It is easy for us to sit here behind our PC and real off comment after comment, but we only comment on facts that either are 1/ very old, 2/ with no truth behind them.
As I have said before, tomorrow is another day, and yes I know we cant ignore what has been said or what is happening, but what else are we to do. Its not us making the film. If there is a problem PP/TH will tell us (I hope) when there good and ready.
Lets see what news comes up over the next 28 days

If there is a problem PP/TH will tell us (I hope) when there good and ready. Hines didnt tell us when the budget suddenly dropped from $43 mil to $12 mil, he didnt tell us that the "world wide theatrical release" was actualy a five cinema American 4 walled release, he didnt tell us that his state of the art SFX that were comparable to the Matrix were actualy utter rubbish even by CBBC standards, the list goes on and on what makes you think theres a chance old delusional Hines will tell us anything beyond the fantasical?
