Olgilvy - The chances of anything, manlike from Mars, are a million to one...
[ We see the cylander crash to earth]
Writer - they can scarcly move!
[go to shot of tripods legs striding of the artillary gun]
woman in crowd - The sojers'll stop em!
[go to shot of big ben being blown up]
Might make a better impact on people as we see a contradiction to every line. Any other ideas

I would like to see a mass of fleeing people, people fighting for a place in a train, the policemen hitting people that they actually have to protect etc. with the words: the Rout Of Civilisation...

Now heres one
Ogilvy: "I see no reason to belive they mean us any harm"
(Music begins, the woman singing I want to rule the earth, as the montages follow)
A martian warmatian strides over the armies. People run as the Narrator cries out to people to get into the water, the curator cries, the tormented woman screams and Big Ben flies across the screen the destroy the bridge and the people on it.
Cut to the famous Ring chant and the logo to the film.
"coming March 30th"

lots more dialogue, and a longer trailer in general. leave out the prologue showing clips of WWI and WWII. keep the singing girl, but depending on how much more actual footage of the movie is added, adjust the length of that clip accordingly. i think it takes up too much time.
as the theatrical trailer now stands, it showcases some neat special effects, but unless one was already familiar with the subject matter and plot, i think it doesn't get across the gist of the movie at all, except that there is some kind of alien invasion, and newcomers to the whole thing will be confused.

I do think that they could have showed more of the main characters in the trailer...

Ya know, I kinda like the fact that newcomers may not know whats going on. Why you ask, because it shows that HE KNOWS who he is making the film for, the fans and purists.

In a way you're right ATL. But surely this movie needs a bigger audience beside the fans. The trailer needs to be jaw-dropping for even the ones unbeknown of WOTW.
The woman singing in the music hall is a very cool and artistic idea, but indeed needs to be shortened somewhat. The World Wars reference. Very Cool. I hope these scenes, and the singing lady will be in the finished trailer.

I think 2 thirds of the trailer should have been about the cyliner landing on the common with glimses of the cylinder opening and close ups of the crowds reaction as the martians emerge ,and the last third consisting of quick clips of basicly chaos destuction maybe the thunderchild ,the major and so on.All this with a proper voice over and appropriate score even if they have to loan one of another movie(as most early trailers do).

I'm with you there Uuulllaaa! Close to what I was thinking.
Perhaps, as the cylinder unscrews, it cuts to a scene from the fighting (giving little away), then back to another turn of the cylinder unscrewing, then another scene of mayhem -"Death is coming! Death!" and cuts to titles as the lid falls off.... Nice mix of apprehension, action and dialogue.

Anyone remember the teaser trailer to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. With it saying "One ring to rule them all, One Ring to Find them....bla bla bla". They could of followed that concept.
"One cold to Own them martians."

You are all under the impression Hines knows bugger all about film-editing or narrative which, by the looks of all three "trailers" I can find no evidence.

"One cold to Own them martians." What's that, Spanish? "One War To Kill Them All"

I like Thunderchild's idea of capturing the chaos of the fleeing masses. Very dramatic. I think the woman singing at the start is very moody. It would be cool if they kept her but interspersed it with the footage of her being prepared for becoming the martians next meal. Keep the audio of her song but occasionally cut between the two scenes as like a before and after. They could top it off with the heatray flashing across Horsell Common and the flames fading to the WOTW logo. Anyway that's just my idea.

WHile this is an old thread and this probably belongs in Fan creations or summit how bout this for a snazzy teaser trailer.
Opening shot of the Earth
'In 1899, THE BRITISH EMPIRE COVERED MOST OF OUR PLANET.
Shot of The Writer waving as the car goes by. Shot of a stem train travelling along the tracks. Life is good.
ENGINEERS AND INVENTORS, WERE WORKING TO BETTER EVERYDAY LIVES.
ON THE SEAS, THE NAVY PATROLLED THE WATERS WITH UTMOST COMMAND
Shot of THUNDER CHILD and the Channel fleet steaming in Slow Motion.
WHILE ON LAND, A MIGHTY ARMY KEPT THE EMPIRE SAFE.
Various shots of cordans of guns waiting anxiously
MEN OF SCIENCE, LOOKED UP AT THE STARS SEEKING KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM OF OUR SPOT IN THE UNIVERSE.
Various shots of OGILVY looking through the telescope. We move up to a shot of a stary ski. Peacful, and nice
AND THE MEN FROM THE STARS. LOOKED BACK AT US, WITH ENVIOUS EYES.
FADE OUT to 'H.G. Well's War of the Worlds.

i think it would be pretty cool if they showed scenes of the british army fighting/whiping out the zulu or tazmanians with the eve of the war intro then showed the green "meteor" falling towards earth and then loads of quick scenes of the attack. this would demonstrate wells original point

One little snag - Britain never had a mighty army! Compared to everyone else it was quite small.
