I heard a rumour that the film will open on Mars, with the Martians discussing how their world is dying and making their plans to invade Earth. I always thought that the album (and novel, to an extent) were absolutely terrifying, due in no small part to the fact that you don't actually know WHY they're doing it. They just do. I know Wells offers much conjecture for the reasons behind the invasion at the end of the novel, but does anyone else think that JW should leave this opening scene out? I reckon it diminishes the power of the story a lot...

"I heard a rumour that the film will open on Mars,"
I also heard a rumour that there is a cinema at the top of Mt Olympus.

I believe there may be an opening scene on Mars but I don't think it's been confirmed definately by the JW camp yet. There was an intro along those lines on the Martian disc of the PC game which showed Martians gathering to make plans for the invasion. Wells does say that it is due to Mars dying though so, I wouldn't say we don't know why they invaded.. it's just that it's not really gone into on the album. That is, apart from Burton's mention of them watching us with 'envious eyes'.. which suggests they envy our occupation of this planet for some reason. As I know the book as well as the album, an intro on Mars wouldn't spoil it for me. In a way, the desperation that leads them to this act makes them perhaps a bit more dangerous. But either way is good.. at nthe end of the day, I just want to see tripods stomping around the Victorian landscape.. like I used to imagine whilst listening to the album as a kid. Incidentally, did everyone know that the team behind the CGI film are also working on the stage show? Looks like those big screens will be put to good use!

The stage shows sound good but to be honest - I wish they'd just get on with the film so it will be out sooner.....................Ere, they are making a film are they and not just producing cgi for the shows?

Gaaah! Don't say that! I've been really looking forward to a JW film. To find out they were just making a cgi backdrop for the tour would be terrible. Very cool for the tour, but not for those of us quietly waiting for a (mostly) faithful Wells adaptation. Please, don't let it be true.....

Ok, rumour control. I've been assured (from JW himself) that Envious Eyes are still making the movie and it is on schedule. It's just that they are working on the CGI for the shows as well. Don't panic! We always knew that the film was a long way off so not doing the show CGI won't get it done any quicker. I, personally, would rather wait than have them rush it out.

Phew! Looks like the best of both worlds then. I think my rumour and untruths thread has backfired at me! Maybe we should just use it for downright lies. Here's one. Jar Jar Binks is to get his own Star Wars spin off movie, showing what happens to him during the rise of the Empire.

Yes.. it's amazing how quickly observations can turn into rumours. Given an extra day or two people would have been slagging JW off for 'cancelling' the film. Just as well I work on Jeff's official site, as well as here, and am kept up to date. As for the Jar-Jar thing, I hope it's that he gets a big (CGI) spear through his dumb (CGI) head. That'd make a great action figure, wouldn't it?

I heard that the Journalist turns cammando Arnold Swarzenegga style and takes on all of the Martians at the same time. Opening a can of whoop-ass!
Why don't you believe me?

I heard that someone (actually, everyone) kicks Krys's ass for continually being a smartass on other people's threads. And for crap spelling, too.

I have to admit I was beginning to think - hold on a minute - is this film really going ahead or is it something being touted to please the fans when in reality the cgi is only being produced for the stage shows.
Then when the stage shows have finished - the film will mysteriously be cancelled for some reason or another.
We've had so many let downs from companies making WOTW films that I couldn't help thinking the unthinkable. Even though I've got a lot more faith in J.Wayne.
Anyway, it's great to hear from the man himself that it's still going ahead on schedule.

As we can ONLY repeat what we have been told and that is directly from the man himself, the film is going ahead, though it is running somewhat behind due to the amount of work involved with the "live" shows, but they are still maintaining a release for 2008.
No need to rush it, we all know what happens when people rush, a films released called War Of The Worlds and directed by a one Mr Spielberg - ooops, was I speaking aloud then ;D
As for the opening of the film - They say that a new begining has already been penned showing WHY the Martians are coming to Earth.

I don't want them to rush it [ like Spielbergs as you say ] but when I first heard that Jeff was doing this movie - I like everyone else, didn't realise how long we'd have to wait. I wish they'd just concentrate on getting the film done - then do the live shows afterwards. I hope the beginning about why they leave Mars is done as tasteful as possible.

Probably the rumor is false: The mars opening is from the videogame

Well it could be true from what's being said but I'm in 2 minds as to whether it's a good idea or not.
One thing I really hope that ISN'T in the picture is any Martians speaking English like they do in the video game. For instance - "We must leave our planet because we have no water" "The Earthlings planet is ours for the taking - Prepare the invason force!" "Mwa ha ha ha!" etc.
That would really take things into the realm of B movie silliness.

In the early stages, Jeff did mention a Mars opening. But as details of the film are being kept very under wraps at the moment I don't know if that is still going to happen.
