Yep! I want to see both too.
I'm not sure that a TV show will dilute a movie. It will be the same subject and story however from what I understand when I spoke to Jeff Wayne at a recent convention, the TV series will be hand animated but not manga, they will be 'bringing the album artwork to life' and the movie will be CG.
I wouldn't think the series will have the albums it's sound track but will be able to build up a huge amount of indepth characters. Think about it, 22(?) episodes each lasting 24 minutes? Thats nearly 8 hours in which to tell the story of War of the Worlds! And remember, the series is not for us, it's for the chinese market, unless one of the American movie networks pick it up we might not get to see it broadcast on TV.
The movie on the other hand will be a lot shorter and will have to be a lot punchier to be in with a chance of climbing the box office charts. It'll have a job too as Final Fantasy CG movie cost $137 million to produce just 4 years ago and the budget for TWOTW movie is $47million?! Thats a big gap but less to loose
Any word on who will be distributing the movie?

Any word on who will be distributing the movie? Not yet. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine it will be Sony Pictures, though.. seeing as they are the record company for the album.

On the subject of bringing the artwork of the LP to life well I don't know how to explain what I mean without getting tied up in knots but surely when we all first looked at this artwork years ago and still do now - we wanted to see these images brought to life in a realistic way and not by conventional cartoon animation. I know films like Spirited Away and Steamboy look great but even they use computers for some of the animation - but the thought of flat hand drawn looking tripods just doesn't appeal to me for a film of any kind. Also I quite enjoyed The Iron Giant but even though the robot itself was animated by computer it was still flat and one dimensional because it was done in the style of normal animation. I kept think all the way through - wouldn't this film have been much better if the robot was done in a much more realistic cgi. Do any of us really want to see a hand animated version? It seems pointless to me and I think it will only add to the view by some that Jeff Waynes projects are cartoonish. I think if they're going to make a tv series then I'm convinced the tv series should be cgi and the main film would be better live action. Obviously though cost is a problem. On the one hand I'd like to see something soon as we have to wait 3 bloody years for the film to come out but I do think something like this might be better being released after the film. It's all getting a bit complicated now. I just want to see the film as soon as possible and I want it to be a masterpiece - the film we all wanted but didn't get from Pendragon or Spielberg.

Sadly, whatever our views are on here, what is actually made and how it will be made will be, as has been said here before, dictated by money. The Chinese want a touring show and an animated TV series, and they are willing to pay for it (it is the largest market on the planet after all) - so that's what gets made... So long as its not all "Monkey" style leaping and karate chopping our squiddy friends I admit I'll probably sit down and watch it (or buy the inevitable Special Edition 8 DVD set ). KR

P.S. despite my comments above, I voted for the CGI film alone ;D

I'd rather have quality not quantity. We've seen what happens when you get all these different adaptations. None of them ends up satisfying.

Very occasionally I do think to myself - are some of us too demanding. Then I think NO! It's definitely NOT us. It's these so called film makers who don't deliver that's the problem. I'm not talking about Jeff Wayne here but when you look at some of the untalented, useless people who haven't got a clue that end up making adaptations of great books then I think some people aren't demanding enough.
