"Jeff Wayne Music Group has sealed a deal with China's M-Star Intl. Culture & Media Co. to finance and co-produce an $18 million theatrical "TWOTW" show. It is expected to open in China for the Chinese New Year 2007, in advance of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and then embark on a world tour.
The deal also includes a 26-part animated TV series based on Wayne's musical version of "TWOTW."
Above information coutesy of 'Jeff Wayne Music'
The above information from JWM states that not only will we be seeing the full blown CGI film based on H.G.Wells novel and Jeff Wayne's 1978 musical released for late 2007 - early 2008, but also a 26 part animated series being made in China is to be released, and released some 18 months BEFORE the CGI film hits cinama's.
We would like to hear your views on this new outcome, be them good or bad, put them here.

My own honest opinon is lets just stick with the film. I have waited some 28 years to see the album turned into a movie, a series released 'before' the film will take the shine off the film and spoil it for me and many others. Lets just stick with a film, you know where you are with a film. A series would just complicate things if released beforehand.

Yep, I think all the apples should stay in the one reliable basket. I think it would be a commercial risk to dilute the impact of the film.

If I was Jeff Wayne I'd go back to the drawing board and I'd put all my effort into a stunning live action film for the big screen. Made more or less as a straightforward epic but using his original music as a basis for an orchestral/ instrumental soundtrack. It might also be a lot quicker to make a live action film than a cgi one. I definitely wouldn't include 'musical' in the title for that though. I also think it would be a great idea to release the series AFTER the film has been released. I'd make the series then as cgi and not as conventional animation. Mind you if the main film was live action maybe it would be ok for the series to be released before the MAIN film as they're 2 different mediums. I think that would please just about everyone.

What to do if your producing asspocket is almost empty? ReRelease your album from 1970's, make a series, make a film, stage a show. Before you know, you're rolling in the ....! You understand.
Come on guys, it's great that Jeff is making a book-accurate movie but the main reason for this entire project is money.

Were not talking Paramount Pictures here. The film is going to cost a cool £25 million to make, a series is going to cost somewhere in the region of £2 -£3 million, stage shows about £8 million, where does all this money come from, as I say, there not Paramount. They released details of a film, stick with that, don't over complicate things by throwing other things into the cooking pot. Before long the fan comunity is going to be scratching its head trying to follow all this. You don't make and release a series BEFORE a film unless you feel the film will not be that good financially. For far to long we have those in the WOTW community cutting off there nose to spite there face. I for one do not want to see another WOTW c0ck-up, I have had enough of that for one year to last a life time. I want a straight forward, plain, simple, honest film adaptation that we can say "that's it, that's The War Of The Worlds". I would prefere someone who was honest, thinking of what the fans want and not what should be shovled into there pocket without a care for us guys.

It seems Wotw is being is set in every country except where it was originally set! I am assuming the theatrical version will be altered for Chinese tastes and set in China.
You know, it would have been really cool if they could have had a War of the Worlds theme for the British Olympics in 2012. The underlying theme of 'Brave new World' would be quite appropriate I think. Of course like everything else to do with wotw it's just a silly pipedream as alway...
As to the animated series, I have to say that it doesn't sound too good to me, as I am concerned it will be too oriental and 'arty' like the Japanese Manga cartoons which I am not a fan off.

I must admit I didn't get the impression that the theatrical show will be altered for Chinese tastes and perhaps set in China from Horsells message, but if that's the case then I think it's just another nail in the WOTW coffin.
I just hope Jeff Wayne puts most of his effort and money into making the film as spectacularly good as possible.
It's the film the overwhelming majority of WOTW fans want to see.

Nargh I can't see them setting it in china. The Anime style has been used on recent releases and set in places like manchester and london (steamboy for example).
I see this as being made in china, but based in england.
I for the record like japanese anime, it can be arty. Don't be too taken with the tat from the 80's like battle of the planets, newer cutting edge anime is much much better.
I voted for both versions, simply because I want to see both.
