[glow=purple,2,300]I know we've heard of 3 machines definately in the movie: Fighting, Handling, Flying. I'm pretty certain it's been said that these will be the only machines, BUT as the movie is still in R&D there may be room for others.
In Jeff's musical, towards the end of the Spirit Of Man, the Journalist saysThis is after we've been introduced to the Fighting/Handling machines. So, what are these different bodies they make?
Obviously, one is the Flying Machine. I'd like to think that we may get some glimpses of the Martian Family from the games, or could it just be the mining machine & the machine with the pear shaped thingummybobs* from the book? [/glow]
* as opposed to watchamacallits!

I'd like to see the Martian Mining machine thats in the pit. I mean what are they mining for, materials for the Fighting Machines or are they making pens for rounded up humans for human farms?

Much as a lot of us would like to see some of the other members of the 'martian family', HTT, they won't be in the movie. That's a cert. The film follows the book's story with the only deviations being those that are in the album (ie. Beth, Carrie, etc). It as been said that only the three main machines will be featured, but I see your point... perhaps the digging mechanism should be in there too, at the very least. We shall see, I guess.

This was one of my main concerns over this film, are we to see 'any' of the other machines seen in the games as I dont want them in there, they belong to the game. Thankfully Jeff put my mind to rest by saying that this film will be the most 'authentic' adaptation to date and will only feature the machines in his musical and H.G's book which means as Nerfy already has pointed out - Fighting, Flying & Handling Machines, with maybe the odd digging machine lingering in the background.

Richard Burtons voice is to be used. The 'Collector's Edition' 7 disc set contains stacks of un-used narration and not only from Richard Burton, but also from David Essex too.

I think the machines from the game are best left out as one or two of them look a bit well - cheesy!

I've got a clip from I think it's the Windows 95 game and not only do the fighting machines themselves look good [ they have the two eyes but I think the eyes look a lot better than the recent Envious Eyes 'eyes' update ] but there's a clip of another fighting machine walking on Mars. It isn't totally faithful to the books description but it still looks good.

We could see some strange stuff at the end when the narrator get to the dead martian camp. There could be slight hints of other machines overturned in the background...

I wouldn't particularly want to see other machines in the film or series for a very simple reason. The Fighting Machine is a classic iconic symbol, and highly recognisable. To have it overshadowed by other bigger and better machines would be counterproductive as the FM would lose much of its visual impact on the viewer. It's not as if the Martians needed them anyway.
For a Star Wars analogy, the Star Destroyer was another classic awe-inspiring design. But as soon as Vader's gargantuan version appeared in TESB, the original designs appeared small and much less impressive in comparison. We don't want that happening to the Fighting Machine.

pluss there aren't xeno-telepaths and god knows what else in the book.

As I've said I would like to see faithful book tripods in the film aswell as the Wayne tripods and these wouldn't have to overshadow the Wayne tripods but the machines such as the xeno telepath from the game are best left in the game as that's getting a bit into silly territory.
On the Star Wars analogy, I still much prefer the original Star Destroyers to the Super Star destroyer though.

I thought the super star destroyer was necassary for the introduction of larger rebel vessels such as those of the mon calamari.

Oh I do like the SSD but I just prefer the original ones. It was a logical step forward though but don't forget it was introduced in TESB where there weren't any Mon Calamari ships.

but the mon calamari ships were planned, the whole 6 films was thought out by that time so it is a less sudden jump, more of a gradual build up.

That's true I suppose. The next film always has to outdo the previous and they obviously planned things in advance [ even if it was only a bit ].
