It is VERY certain that JWM/ORP are going to use the recordings of Richard Burton taken from 1977. That's good to know. I can't imagine anyone being as good a narrator as Richard Burton - his voice works so well with the music. Plus, If anyone else tried to do it, we'd all end up spending a long time complaining about it anyway.

This seems a bit of a redundant discussion to me...! The movie is a CGI visual representation of the musical album, therefore it will probably be similarly structured i.e. a great deal of music interspersed with dialogue and songs. It is right and proper therefore that the original dialogue and voices are used. Who cares if the still living contributors aren't trendy anymore? If you're going to update the voices why not scrap the whole thing and do a CGI version of the Spielberg film??!!! Regarding the visualisation of our 'hero' well I think it would be a great tribute if the character looked a lot like a young Richard Burton (c. Anthony & Cleopatra maybe) - with or without dodgy 'tache KR

Burton was 38 when "Cleopatra" was released. I had the impression the Narrator was younger than that.

It becomes a 'redundant' discussion if people don't stay on topic Who said anything about the original voices not being trendy anymore? Just curious to see who people would pick if they had a choice. Struan Rodgers is an excellent narrator. He'd do a good job with just about anything.

Yeah, but we had this discussion many moons ago about who would we pick for a film version or for a remake of the album. Surely the same names will rise again and again. There just seems to be a bit of a dispute over RB. He couldn't be bettered and wouldn't need replacing. Ok so he's dead, but as they [should] have enough dialogue to use in the film, as all the characters are animated this really doesn't matter. KR

Well as I've said I think David Essex and Lynott worked fine on the LP but I'd prefer it now if Jeff used top class actors to do the voices for the film but keep Richard Burtons voice.
I don't know about anyone else but I'd prefer it if this film was not made as a musical. Seeing as Jeff is giving us a live musical with cgi [ which will no doubt be available on dvd ] then I think it would be a great idea to do the film differently and give us a classy take on the story with a classy orchestral soundtrack [ based on Jeffs tunes ] and classy actors - not a rock video with 70s pop/rock icons.

Er...surely the fact the film will have music running through it will make it a musical?? KR

The Star Wars films have orchestral music running right through them but they're not musicals. And so do many others. I'm talking about an orchestral/instrumental soundtrack based on Jeffs LP that doesn't include songs [ except perhaps for Forever Autumn ]. We all discussed this a while ago remember as there was an indication that Jeff might be doing something along this line - and most of us thought it would be a great idea.

That's true; I can't really imagine the "Thunderchild" song working visually, as it's all narration.

Personally I think it would work quite well. Remember my points of reference are things like "The Wall" and "Watership Down", and not "South Pacific" KR
