Horsell if you're around there, I meant to ask about something you stated the other day.
Is the soundtrack to Jeffs film going to be mainly orchestral takes on his songs?

Hi FS
I believe it too be, but its not been confirmed yet. As its very early stages and with them looking more into the film bei8ng taken directly from the novel using Jeff's machines and score, we could be looking at a completely new score based on the 1978 album.

...looking more into the film bei8ng taken directly from the novel using Jeff's machines and score. Interesting... So they're sort of going back to the source and starting over? I'm sure I read somewhere recently that one reason they wrote the brother out of the plot was time constraints (even though it was a double album). I suppose also it might have been confusing in an audio medium, whereas on film it would be much clearer. Anyway, sounds very intriguing... *strokey beard, strokey beard*

Originally JWMVOTWOTW was going to be a one disc affair. The 3 disc's of rarities do contain some of the original tracks that were to be used for this one disc album, but Jeff kept pushing and pushing and finally CBS agreed to it going from one disc to two disc's, which pushed the album from its original £35,000 upto £240,000 when completed.

How cool would that be! Imagine an orchestral only version of 'eve of the war' for a start. I know e.o.t.war is half way there already but a purely orchestral soundtrack based on all Jeffs music, throughout the film could be awesome. As this is a film and there is no real need for song lyrics to describe scenes etc this could be the best way to go for Jeff Wayne. Maybe 'forever Autumn' could be stuck in there somewhere.

That's how I see it. The song 'Forever Autumn' would be the only one that could stand aloan in the film as a seperate piece away from the others and work not only as a devider of a disaster that unfolds but also of a long lost love (oh god) and be called 'The Love Theme From . . . '. Lets hope Celene Dion is unavailable during the making of this film.
With narration, songs/lyrics, for a 'visual' film, there would be really no need unless Jeff wanted to bring back old school film musicals of the 60s and 70s, not a bad thing but are we really ready for a singing and dancing film version of a Martian invasion which is to be taken seriously.
The narration is usefull to a point, area's of the film where the 'blanks' can be filled in with the use of narration. The opening sequence being one of them of 'No one would have believed . . . '.

Yes I'd go along with the Celine Dion bit and the use of some narration plus what you said about 'Forever Autumn'. I also think it might be a good idea for Jeff to drop the 'musical' bit of the title if he is using a mainly orchestral score as it would no longer be necessary.
Come to think of it, I also think the best way for Jeff to go with this film is to give us a full on gritty, realistic take of the book but using some things which are unique to Jeff such as the machines, his music [ mainly orchestral] and one or two other things to make this film a real spectacular tour-de-force.
I also still wish he was making a live action movie especially now that Pendragon have let us down big time.

I was just under the impression that it was just his Album made into a movie with a few extra bits but if what you are all saying is true it sounds ace. Will they use Richard Burton's voice as well?

If it pans out this way, then it sounds very promising indeed! I have to say I had my doubts before, as I was under the impression that it would be a musical (which really wouldn't work) but now I'm pretty excited by the whole thing! Two years though, argh...
