Taking into account some of the narration in the album, the Michael Trim machine design and the forth coming CGI film, I am begining to wonder if the 'Heat Ray' gun will be turned into a multi-purpose device, used for not only firing the 15,000 degree Heat Ray but also used as a Black Smoke discharger, releases the smoke instead of the books way of cannisters, the steam which is sprayed upon the Black Smoke and a light/torch - 'a beam of light, like a warships search light swept the common and the Heat Ray was ready to follow'.
I think this would be a cool use for the gun, not only multi-purpose but also confined to one device.

I always thought that the Black Smoke cannisters were fired through the two red round hatches on each side of the hood...

The TC painting shows the pods on the hood with the right side pod being differant to the left, the left pod being the possible candidate for the 'Black Smoke' dispenser. The CGI version has the pods the same, so Im begining to think that this 'theory' of mine may be put to use as a all-in-one device.

I suppose but it would be neat to see more than one piece of equipment. I'd rather a table with a display of different blades than a swiss army knife. But thats just my opinion.

I'd like to think we are going to get a seperate discharger. I think a mulit purpose heat ray gun would be a little bit of a cop out. though with having no visible tentacles showing on the FM's except that little antenna one underneath, it's hard to see how they could discharge the black smoke by holding a discharger, so yer the pods on the side could do it I guess.

I always thought that the fighting machines would have parts that folded open, revealing more tenticles. And also, isnt the warships searchlight just in the pit, not, actually on a fighting machine?
And I think it would appear to cheap to have them be all in one. Like they couldnt be bothered to design new things.
I think it will definnatly be a seperate piece of equipment.

Hmm, why not canisters? We've seen in the JW games some machines fired canisters, like the special sentries etc, but were heat canisters or something, releaced the intence heat as seen in the heat ray. But any-who it's still gonna look good. And the light in the pitch black of night, people hiding, it will look even more jaw dropping!
