I have been thinking about this movies time duration, whether Jeff is keeping with the duration of the original album or whether the film is going to be of a 'epic' proportion.
I only can imagine that there are not that many animation films out there that are over 2 hours in length. I think the longest animation film I have seen was The Lord Of The Rings released in the 1970's. Back then the style and the way of how the film was made is fairly basic compared to todays standards, so keeping it with todays CGI films such as 'Shrek', 'Sharks Tale' & 'Finding Nemo' are we to see a film with mind blowing FX animation run to a time of 90 mintutes due to cost ($48 million).

H_C It's as you said the problem with making a movie using CGI is not really the story line/ animation but the cost of it all! i am guessing that the film will be around the 90 minute barrier, which wouldn't be bad at all. any more clips coming from the JW camp yet?

Yeah 90 minutes sound right for a CGI animated film.

Tricky one that! I'd say that 90 minutes is way too short nowadays but maybe about 2 hrs 20 minutes would be about right.
I think anything less than that would take some of the epic feel from it.

Just wondering, but how much did such films like 'Shark Tale' & 'Shrek 2' cost in the end?.
I guess this would give us a rough estimated guess with price which would lead to time duration.

What we have to consider is the fact that many Hollywood animated movies such as 'Sharks Tale', 'Finding Nemo' & 'Shrek' do not (necessarily) have long running times because of budgetary constraints. The attention span of the kids watching the film plays a big factor so the film makers tend to keep the running time to approximately 80/90mins max. 'The Incredibles' breaks the trend by going to two hours but anyone who watches it will know that that differs from the traditional kiddy flick! So where does this leave JW's WOTW. It has got to be at least a PG-13 as this will be squarely aimed at anyone 25+. I am making this assumption by the people who were around to buy the album first time and those offspring who were influence by it!!!! (like me! ). So the running time could quite easily fit 2 hours, hell, why not break the mold and go for 2 1/2 (If people were willing to sit for 3+ hours watching LOTR why not another adaptation of a literary masterpiece!!!). ;D Sorry to ramble on... I'll get my coat

I agree that the film should be of a more 'adult' nature because of the subject matter but I don't think it will be squarely aimed at 25+ year although those are the ones most likely to get initially excited by it. Bear in mind that the album is coming up for a BIG reissue soon and many more people will become aware of it. 2 hours sounds fair as a running time and a 15 rating would allow the film to be what it can although it may even get a 12a rating as it is 1) Animated and 2) Based on a classic work of fiction, this often gets movies seen in a different light by the BBFC and 3) whilst there will be some horror (I assume), there won't be any swearing or nudity.

Well, if they're going to show people bursting into flame...I think it's sure to say it'll be more adult oriented...unless they start vaporizing and dissapearing like in the 1950's movie.

I was under the impression that the movie would be a giant filmclip to the musical. i also heard somewhere he was doing a new track about why the martians had to leave mars.
As for long CGI movies, how long did Final Fantasy The Spirits Within go for?

Final Fantasy wieghs in at 106 minutes. However, it did have a much larger production budget than JW's movie, with a whopping $137M (~£72.3M). It also made a huge loss of around $60.5M (~£32M)

I'd like two versions
1: 70-90 mins standard length musical
and the true work - the piece de resistance...the TREASURE!!
2: 287 mins...nothing left out...scene for scene literal adaptation of the book with jeff's music cut into it, lots of dramatics, action scenes, character building, emotion.
Lets face it THIS IS THE ONE WE REALLY WANT!! (please don't say 'yeah but pp is giving you that - bah - it's not going to be jeff's music, the albumn visions or have any kind of the dramatic scope that animation can achieve)
Most anime can run to well over this kind of length so I don't see why jeff's WOTW can't....
