I think it should end with the last dying martian looking up at the narrator and the narrator saying "That's what you get for invading my planet Beatch!" The martian then gets some cardboard down and challenges him to a breakdancing competition to the tune of MC Hammer's "Can't touch this" with added Ullars. Then 10 other martians come in and do the wave. The narrator tries to do a head spin but fails to pull it off, much to the hooting of the martians. The world is ultimately saved by a gang who pull of a series of stunning breakdance moves, some of which are actually not physically possible. The martian gives them a high 5 tenticle and dies...

I think the ending should be in keeping with the album but updated. It'd be great to see one of the current Mars rovers, Spirit or Opportunity, trundle over the edge of a Martian crater and spy an enormous Martian camp with a cannon being prepared. The cannon could fire, the rover get spotted and quickly obliterated. The last haunting image the rover transmits being a tripod bearing down on it with a belch of green flame behind.
The screen goes black to the familiar album "wee-ooo...wee-ooo" noise.

It should end with a montage over the narration
Picture this:
***The Narrator runs up the side of Primrose hill, tumbling and slipping in his desperation, the angle of the view tilted upwards, so we can see the Fighting Machines, a mass of black birds pecking at it. And then, as we the top of the hill damn, we suddenly move forward, to look over the Narrator, and down over the other side. To the wreckage of the Martian camp. Then we cut to an image, almost exactly the same as "Dead London"... and then back to the Narrator, he looks around, confused, and dazed, and we see the full scope of the destruction from his vantage point. We show him looking up at the fighting machine, and making his way down into the Martian camp... *** I made my way down into the pit where they had carved a home, and sure enough their they where, dying. Slain after all man's devices had failed by the humblest creatures on the earth: bacteria. Minute, invisible, bacteria. Directly the invaders arrived and drank and fed, our microscopic allies attacked them. From that moment, they were doomed. ***As this Narration takes place we see him moving threw their camp, down the embankment of the pit, and passed more Fighting Machines, more scavengers. We see the Fighting Machine, slumped and crashed into a building, like its pilot had died in the air (Note this scene should be similar to the '58 view of the crashed Manta Ray War Machine as an homage). He makes his way further, pulling and ripping at dead Red Weed, white now, and crumbling in his grasp. And then he finds one of them, a Martian, still alive, wheezing, grunting under our atmosphere, its breathing slow, it looks almost afraid now, perfetic and helpless. It is near death, and as the first part of the Narration ends, so does it breathing. We fade to white.*** The torment was ended. ***And then fade back in again at ground level, on a street in London, wreckage and debre everywhere, a building in the distance collapsed, a Handling Machine crumped and distorted inside its wreckage. And then a foot falls infront of the camera, and a person works over our point of view, and another next to them, the music kicks in now, victorious, to a degree.*** The people scattered over the country, desperate, leaderless, starved... ***We see scenes of trains pulling up, of people waiting anxiously, searching the crowds of those getting off, all of them without possesion... refugees returning from their hiding places across the country. (Note: This scene should reflect some images from World War 2, and be particulary powerful to watch). And then we see the Artilery Man, weary and dirt stricken, walking out onto the street, and he shields his eyes from the light. And then, we see the ocean, tiny steamers moving on the distance, and one is already in dock. We see the Narrator, in the midst of a crowd, some holding up signs with loved ones names on them... so just waiting, all hoping. The gang plank lowers, and their, at the front, is Carrie, in an echo of when she left, but now she is returning.*** The thousands who had fled by sea including the one most dear to me; all could return. ***They run forward and embrace, his look is troubled, but happy, and she brakes down in tears... no sound except the music and narration. And then we see London once more, people tugging and pulling Red Weed from building and doorways, carts moving past loaded with bodies and objects. And then we see a Fighting Machine, its hood torn, red flesh now all but gone from within it, and a man slowly appears, climbing up it, struggling to grap, until he stands on top... man on top again. And below him we hear cheers. He appears drunk, full of glee.*** The pulse of life growing stronger and stronger would beat again. ***The theames, with a great many people moving along it, celebrating with drinks and shouts. Big Ben has its frame worked mapped by scafolding, being repeared, as do some of the bridges that we can see. And we start to move along London, cutting a montage together of scenes of celebration, hundreds, maybe thousands of people on the streets, cheering...*** As life returns to normal, the question of another attack from Mars causes universal concern. Is our planet safe, or is this time of peace merely a reprieve? ***We see the National History Museum, rebuilding still taking place on that also, and on its enterance way reads... "Full Martian Specimen Within." This is not concentrated upon though, to avoid the cliche of it all. And then we see the Narrator, cheering amoung the others, his wife hanging onto his arm, it is nighttime, but a great many lights burn on the street...*** It may be that across the immensity of space, they have learned their lessons , and even now await their opportunity. ***We slowly pan up, away from the crowds, and to Big Ben, it is a spectacular sight, half destroyed, but standing tall, like humanity, with frame work all around it, slowly being rebuilt, like humanity.*** It may be that across the immensity of space, they have learned their lessons , and even now await their opportunity. Perhaps the future belongs not to us... ***We stay on the shot of Big Ben, the party audible below us, until to one side, and above Big Ben, we see a faint green flash, and then it consumes the screen, and draws into darkness...*** But to the Martians.
The credits come up, similar to the Firefly ones, like The Heat Ray is burning over the text to reveal it. And it reads Jeffy Wayne and whoever the Director is. Then roll credits, to the music of Eve of War. No spoken lines though.
End of Film.

If it were as somoneone here stated as the NASA ending but no visual stuff, it could end 1904 or whatever and then the credits, at the end of that the NASA stuff comes in. Or it could be say 100 years later and we see a martian elder, holding a bottle of cough drops. --- But what about the NASA ending, with visual things except on mars there is nothing, nothing except abandoned martian equiptment and dusty cities etc, as the Martians have looked elsewhere to live, say the Moon or mabey even closer to us than that...

I would like to see the NASA ending. You see the NASA control room, just as the probe sets down then all of a sudden things start winking out around the planet. Then the green flares on Mars. Can we say sequel? ;D Cheers Thorgrimm Nice idea, let me expand if you will... We get images of the lights 'winking on', an Army officer is standing behind a glass window. The Head Supervisor of the NASA program places his hand against the earpiece, then nods to the Army Officer, "it's confirmed Colonel". The Colonel picks up the phone and says..."Get me General Wells."....

I think the Collectors Edition of the album revealed the ending.
SPOILER... WELL MAYBE. But come on, we all know how it ends either way.
Its the NASA one.
If you look on the page with all the images for the CGI film, youll notice one on Mars, with a tripod-esque Mars landing machine.
Spoilers? Perhaps. -Winks-.

I don't think for one moment that Jeff will finish this film with a NASA style ending because the book does not finish the same way and this film is going to be the book and not a musical (as such) but using the Wayne/Trim machines with a re-orchestrated score (movie style) and Jeff want's a faithful adaptation. The images seen including the R&D footage will most likely never be seen or even used in the film as they are only R&D images and not the finished article.

You mean Jeff has rejected my idea of having Bobby, sorry, the Narrator wake up in the shower and realising it was all a dream, and then he turns around and there's a Martian handing him a loofah...? Cue Bobby, sorry, the Narrator, screaming.

Since the narrator bumped his head in the shower he comes up with an idea for the flux capacitor? An concocts a plan to Time Travel back to when the Martians invaded and halt them, but finds out that if the said event hadn't happened then he wouldn't have invented the Time Machine in the first place....wait haven't we been here before? The proper ending could feature zoomed out view of the Earth when suddenly the lights in the New York area of the United States disappears...they try to invade another continent?

After the closing part of the war (1900) the film blends into a modern day setting showing Londons skyline of today and all the famous landmark features, Warf Tower, Big Ben, London Eye. The camera moves across London as people continue with there lives, moving closer to Nelsons Column. It starts from the Columns base moving slowly up, past the statue of Nelson, continuing up and pulling away. A bright camera flare as the sun bounces off the lens to reveal the tarneshed remains of a single Martian Fighting Machine standing over the Column - a reminder of that great war. Or ... scenes of modern day London - Westminster Bridge at rush hour, tourists, suits in the city etc., ... then to Primrose Hill, past a family group having a picnic, a jogger, a tramp rummaging in a litter bin*, some contractors in high-vis bibs working at the foot of some scaffolding - pan upwards and we see the ruined fighting machine being renovated - painted or shotblasted or something and with scaffolding around its legs, onto which is attached one of those yellow "danger of death" signs that you see on building sites. VSx *Has anyone attempted CGI vagrancy before? Could be another coup for Jeff!

The NASA ending, the camera slowly pans up the legs of a machine, we see it half from the back and the left side, but it is in shadow, we can't fully see it. The rover etc focuses in on the huge towering "thing".
A Tempest lowers it's funnel and melts the invading machine in hot hellish fury...
---
So in short use another machine, I know Jeff said he wouldn't use the many that apear on the games but just the sneak peak for about 3 seconds to round it off wouldn't go amis.
Showing that the martians have not yet been defeated and are making bigger better ways to stand on our punt grape-like bodies.
---
By the way I'm not sure what happens at the end of the album, does a Rover etc get destroyed by the martians? Could that result in a second invasion as they thought that the rover was our best attempt to get our own back on them?
