Venus, eh? Not much on Venus worth conquering. Lots of...gas...If I were a martian I'd go straight to Earth...or at least the moon...then I could build up forces and have an easy drop down to attack Earth. it did say at the end of the novel that the martians were probably going to settle for venus instead of the earth.

[glow=red,2,300]Once they had established themselves on Venus I could see they would find humanities development of technology based on their own as a major threat... and we'd have a war that'd make the first one look tiny in comparison. [/glow]

I would be quite happy with it ending with "maybe the future does not belong to us, but to the martians..." and seeing everyone celebrating, possibly with the view centered on mars through the view of a telescope... the screen starts to fade to black, but before it does a green flare is seen and just as the screen turns black, we get one final "Ulla!"
I think that would be fairly similar to the human ending in the PC game.

[glow=Green,2,300]Hi I'm New. Just incase you didn't know!! ;D [/glow] I like the ending for the game, that the prolog plays over the credits... or that we cut to mars, a seedy pub where martian wariors drink and sleeper over old battle wounds. then men land in flashy space ships and begin to shoot the martians and set fire to their thacht roofs. genraly being evil. when sudenly they all burst into gilbert and sulivan style song and proceed to perform an epick tap dance
[glow=red,2,300]martians are very good tap dancers by nature, howeaver they must have specialist shoes![/glow]

I think it should end with the narrator rolling around in a sleeping bag with the artillerymans ex wifes gourgeous page 3 glamour model cousin [ maybe Abi Titmus could play the part ].
Just like at the end of a James Bond film. "Good grief Mr Narrator!"

For some reason i think that the Tripods breakdancing would be a thrilling conclusion... breakdancing on mars to get cash to fund the next invasion i guess...

I like the sound of the first men in the moon ending. I think more along the lines of what was said at the start of the thread but with my own touch lol. The London sky line lit up at night, the camera pans along the Themes bank towards Big Ben then up at a clear night sky with stars twinkling, followed by the passing of a green commet in the distance...wee-ooo wee-ooo etc. I dont want the martians wiped out, probably more realistic but it is too final for me.

[glow=red,2,300]There just seems to be something irresistable with the idea of singing and dancing martians, I did it myself in my webcomic. I would really love to see an easter egg on the DVD like the one on Final Fantasy where the cast dance to 'Thriller'. Breakdancing tripods huh? How about have the Martians and tripods dance to the Beastie Boys song 'Intergalactic'! Rip off the clip for the song and have the Martians take on Cthulhu or Godzilla or some such!
Please, please, please give us some comedy animations on the dvd like some of the easter eggs on the Iron Giant special edition or the ploopers that run during the credits of A Bugs Life. I wouldn't want them on the big screen at the cinema but on the dvd it would be fantastic! [/glow]

i like DvB's idea, of a mission to mars discovering the remnants of the once great martian civilisation now lying dead on the surface of their planet. i think it would be a very powerful ending.

I like the idea of our next unmanned mission gets a glimpse of a somewhat obvious non-natural artifact, tilts to one side and goes off-line.
Fade to green...

Or a Martian popping up (like Bugs Bunny) infront of a formation of circles, chomping on a human saying 'that's all folks' ;D

Seem as though this is Jeff Wayne's adaptation, I'm quite happy with the ending on the album.
Perhaps slightly changed to show a shuttle in orbit around Mars, one of the astronaughts saying ''It looks beautiful from up here... wait, what was that....*crackle crackle*''
The astronaught peers out of the window and you see a green comet streak across the blackness of space, and then you hear the astronaught again...
''Hello? Houstan... Houstan?''
Fade to Black

I'd like to see a shot of a modern day transit camp at Dover with a load of disconsolate looking Martians inside being pelted with eggs thrown by protesters holding 'P*SS OFF BACK TO MARS YOU SCROUNGING MARTIAN GITS!' placards, and Robert Kilroy-Silk demanding to know why Martians are being given council flats and food vouchers. Or a clip from 'Fawlty Towers' with a concussed Basil Fawlty shrieking 'Don't mention the war!' while a group of bemused Martians sit/perch/lurk* at a table waiting for a bowl of blood... Basil: 'You started it!' Martians: 'Ulla ulla ulla!' (Translation: 'No we didn't!') Basil: 'Yes you did, you invaded Surrey!' LMFAO!!!

Anything apart from that dreadful NASA ending. I always hated it.

I'd like to see the film end, credits roll and just when you think the film is over, the cinema screen is shown and the camera slowly turns around to show that it's martians in the seats watching the film....
Cue the first so many bars of the WOTW music - fade to black.

My idea for an ending would be for the traditional narrator's ending "but belongs to the martians ....", the camera can zoom into the atmosphere and orbit the earth, you see the skies clear (we are moving through time rapidly, victorian coal driven industry moves into electrical and cleaner), sputnik flies past, then skylab, Mir, then the ISS and into the inside of the ISS.
An astronaut is busy looking at a scientific experiment on his desk, he's trying to splice human and martian gene's (or some such). He is alerted by a colleague to "come look at this", and he looks out of the porthole to see cylinder following cylinder landing on each major city with a flash. Ends with him simply saying "no no, not again".
fade out to sounds of heat ray, screams and a final bone-chilling "ULLA!".

Slick2097 that sounds a fantastic ending it kinda reminds me to the ending of terminator 3 where you see the nukes going off all over the world, i would like to see a bit of martian tech in the ISS just to show how we have adapted it to us over the years

Good ideas but I think I'd really like to see the ending follow the book as closely as possible.
