I have been in touch with Jeff Wayne's camp who have seen the incredibly positive reactions to the release of their Martian Fighting Machine test footage last week. The response has truly been an overwhelming Thumbs Up, with over 1,500 views of the thread in under one week! As a result of this, Jeff has authorised the release of a 60 second sequence (also R&D) of the Martian Flying Machine. So here it is - enjoy!! It's hotter than the Heat Ray itself... Look out for the launch of Jeff's official website in March - www.thewaroftheworlds.com - with a vast range of new merchandise, and shortly thereafter (planned for May) the first edition of the comic book (which has already been written) and, in June, the re-promotion of the album, with a variety of exciting new products. Visit URL to see the new Martian Flying Machine clip. www.waroftheworldsonline.com/movies/clip2.htm

I love Jeff Wayne! This is an even newer take on the designs from the video game. It looks great! The foggy lights and green mist really make it stand out.

This again is more of the footage I saw when at Jeff's. The 'green' lights about the machines fins is the same design as what will be seen in the rim of the cylinder during flight and when opening.
I never saw the Handling Machine, but hazard a guess - cylinder in flight, on Horsell Common, Thunder Child - who knows. . . Amazing stuff though would you agree.
The FM reminds me a little of the machines seen in Terminator 3.

This is INCREDIBLE stuff. I love the way the Flying Machine zips off at the end - almost like saying: see you all on the Big Screen! Go Jeff! He's taking on Hollywood!! ;D ;D ;D ;D Can't wait for everything else this year!

Man that is AWESOME!! and it's not a word I use often.
I no skaterboy but seriously that is AWESOME!!
I love the patchy metal - almost burnished, that tarnished lived in look - THAT'S WHAT MAKES SOMETHING RISE ABOVE THE REST. Attention to details like that.
Great use of lighting - going love seeing those beams strobing across the fields, trees and houses looking for cannon fodder.
I see the heat ray has 'fattened up' - got a real nice patchy edge going on now. I can almost hear the jets in my mind.
and I don't know about you but that 'light' is shining through PATCHY FOG/SMOKE!!. which means that the misty cylinder scene should pretty much look stunning and any action through smoke and fog is going to look stunning. If they can do FOG that well - pheewwee - well that's pretty much everything!.
If this level of quality is sustained in all the backgrounds, the impact strikes, the characterisations, the general level of detail in the envirnoment, skies, weather etc then this could seriously become one of the showpieces of modern CGI cinema.
I mean they've already got THE BEST MUSICAL SCORE EVER MADE.
Jeff is the boy!!I'm double stoked - first the PPFM and now this!!..
(just one thing though - It will be cool if we can have damage and dirt - you know like in Colin Mcrea rally - over time they get filthy, bent and damaged through general warring. few flaps of metal hanging off, some mud splashes on the legs from rainy days and dirty fields etc - keeping it real!!. )

WOW! I've never played JW's game, so I didn't know of his flying machines. Although JW's designs (tripods et al) are nothing like I imagined when reading the book, it is definetly a cool design. WOW! again. JW's Worlds are realy a world on their own.

nice. the animation when it starts to fly is slightly jerky in some places, but this is test footage after all, its not supposed to be perfect. great design overall. i'm not as impressed with it as i was with the fighting machine, but then again, i haven't been wanting to see the flying machine animated for 25 years so it wasn't QUITE as exciting... but the fact that they are including a flying machine in their movie DOES get me more excited about the overall project cool. just flat out cool. i love the floodlights and the green lighting on the 'wings'. we want footage of the thunderchild next!

O.K - The Coming Of The Martians
Famous bloke comes on, says some words 'they drew there plans against us', orchestra pops up, some blokes on keyboard starts playing while another on drums taps away. Famous bloke mention flases on a big red planet followed by a 'whooooooosh' sound made by a keyboard (cool). Big metal thing lands and starts to open as some famous singers sings 'chances of nowt coming from a mars bar are a million to one'. Famous actor starts talking as metal objects opens up and octopus type creatures emerge (bit like a day at water world that). Some blokes (nosy buggers) take a closer look and get slighty burnt. Famous actor chap mentions the octopus creatures banging (leaves that to your imagination). Big green flash, another metal object lands with a bump. Bloke from the army comes along and mentions things on legs (think he's been on the bottle). They go to London (should have gone to Blackpool would have been a cheaper day out). Big lumps of metal on 3 legs appear and blow things up for the fun of it while shouting ULLA (which is the international mating sounds of the hedgehog). Loads of people in London decide to leave (that happens in real life, no need for the big ugly octopus creatures). Big Ben gets a slap and a boat with guns gets sunk as octopus creatures sing out another hedgehog matiing call sign.
And thats the basic run down - hope its of help.
