[glow=red,2,300]Not too sure how I feel about this. While I'd love to see more of the Martians on Mars and felt the cinematic on the PC game worked really well, I'm not too sure how it will work iin the film. For one thing it will rob the cylinder opening scene of much of its power. I would think that it would work better as a dvd extra (much as I'd love to see Wellsian Mars on the big screen) or perhaps as a visualisation sequence for voiced over speculation by the narrator later in the film, perhaps the ruined house sequence.
Speaking of Wellsian Mars, I've heard that the film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow has lots of classic scifi referances. The directer is now making Edgar Rice Burroughs A Princess of Mars. I wonder if we might see a tentacled/winged Martian or a tripod off in the distance in one shot. I sure hope so![/glow]

One that that seemed weird with that cinematic...
Mars is supposed to have the red surface because of the 'red weed' right? But that cinematic just shows mars to be red, barren rock and dust.

[glow=red,2,300]Of course, the humans might be wrong in assuming that Mars got its red appearance from its foliage.. for one that would be an aweful lot of plants for a dying, drying world. [/glow]

I see what you mean, Chris. To fit in with the story Mars would have to have great fields of Red Weed. As far as the Journalist is concerned, Mars is red because of the weed, and it should be portayed that way, despite what we know now. We can suspend our disbelief for the Album.. why not for a movie?

In the space machine the writer remarks that red weed was taking over mars, maybe mars wasn't always red. Maybe the weed is killing mars, maybe it's one of the reasons they left. Just a thought

i like the idea of a martian prequel, if there are any newcomers to WOTW then it will explain clearly why the martians needed to conqer earth.

My only concern with the prequel is that it will give too much away too soon- I don't want to see the martian until the cylinder pops open. Yes- I imagine what it will look like, but seeing the beasts in the prequel will still kill the anticipation.
