I've been thinking about this for a while now.
I've made myself a WOTW story in 24 (TV show) style:
This is only a rough idea since I haven't come up with a complete script or story either.
Oh yeah I also sped it up to.
I mean, the Martians land, build and deploy their FM's in one day rather than the three in the book.
If I didn't do that I discovered that I'd turn into PP and have a lot running scenes.
The following takes place between:
5:00 am - 7:00 am
Ogilvy finds the cylinder.
Runs back into Woking to raise the alarm.
A few people head down to the cylinder to see what's happening.
People are slowly digging away the dirt around the cylinder when the top slowly starts unscrewing..........
8:00 am - 10:00 am
The crowd flees the pit and scrambles up the sides.
One man can't make it up.
The top comes off and a Martian appears at the rim.
The crowd screams and withdraw back from the edge.
The Martian goes over the rim and a second one appears in its place.
The man who could make it over the edge almost gets away when a Martian grabs him and pulls him back.
The crowd start to edge their way back to the pit.
A strange device appears out of the cylinder........
11:00 am - 1 00 pm
The device is revealed to be a heat ray when it starts torching people.
3/4 of the crowd die and the Narrator flees back to his house.
Once there he convinces his wife to go with him.
They leave in the cart.
Else where soliders begin leaving for Woking.
Meanwhile the Narrator has taken his with to Leatherhead (?) and is on his way back when a giant leg lands in front of him - the horse rears................
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The horse and cart topples over and the Narrator is thrown out as a tripod stomps past thinking he is dead.
The Narrator heads back to his house to find many of the houses in Woking burnt to a crisp but his is still intact.
The Artillery Man staggers towards his house as it is still whole and the Narrator goes out to stop him before inviting him back inside.
Once inside the Artillery Man tells the Narrator what happaned:
Several Companies of soliders tried to storm the pit from all sides as the guns shelled the cylinder but in a swift motion the heat ray wiped them out.
The heat took out a few exposed cannons as a fighting machine rose up.
The troops see this and start to target the machine.
Many of them panic as the fighting machine starts destroying the artillery.
The Artillery Man is thrown backwards in an explosion and lands underneath with bodies which pile on top of him hiding him from view of the machine.
But he can see everything and watchs as the machine wipes out what ever is left and then moves out towards Woking.
A second rises up and follows the first.
The Artillery Man escapes and some how finds the Narrators house.
The two agree that they can't stay in the house any longer and must leave and then suddenly hear a deafening 'ULLA'!............
To be continued
And that's all I can think of for now.
Let me know what you think of it.
