The destruction, death on Crescent street.
Guy was working on is bicycle, since 2 years. The bike was not real, it was a peace of art. He had a good news, he as been accepted to bring is bicycle at the MotoFest of Crescent street im montreal. This was a big evenement, lots of peoples. We were so anxious about that day. Finaly we were installed for the day till 11pm at night.
Just before lunch, A lot of people where already there, the first show of motocross, took place. As the hours go by, more and more people where comming. Even if the shopper was not a real , people took a lot of pictures, and where very surprised to learn about the material that Guy took to build it, exemple, washing machine panels, Cofee cans etc.
The fest was going on, we where in the middle of the afternoon.
Suddently, the sky went grey, and charcoal, and there was a lot of wind. Then a first lightening, and a second, a third, and more. The noise was sereal, Nobody ever heard someting like that before. Every body were transfix. Some started to run on St-Catherine street, trying to find a place far from these lightnings.
Then everything stopped. Silence. there was lightning in the distance. Peoples started to leave in a hurry. Other just when on St-Catherine, and looked every where to try to see something, that would reasured them, an answer of what was taking place. A few minutes later, there was a noise, under our feet. with tremors. This time people turned in direction of the noise, And guess what, half of the people, including Guy and me, went back closer to the hole made by the lightnings.
More tremors, more noise, and then all the bistros, restaurants, Started to shake, and brake apart, What was really weird, is a lot of thing were being destroyed infront us, and at the same time, the tremors where not that strong where we were.
There was noise, coming from all the destruction infront of us. And what happend infront of us was incomprehensible. Noise where coming back, but not for the same reason. Something was coming out of that hole, and it was big. First there was loud metal sound. and then someting like a mechanical, sound. Something big came out, It seems to be metal, it looks like a cabin, a pretty big one, then it goes up and up and up. No one ever saw someting like that.
The machine was standing high now, it had three legs, A TRIPOD. what is that??? peoples where asking each other. And then a BIG noise, sounding as a big boat noise when making other boat aware it is presence. This was the tripod call as we learn later. When that sound happened, every body where in fear, but stay there. Curiosity. And then there was a noise, like a machine gaining strengh to do someting.
Right after that, the heat ray began. We had to leave everything there, anyway it would be no more in a few seconds. And we runned to a metro station. We had the time to see a lot of fire, people becoming dust after being hit by the heat ray, All the buildings where being destroyed. noise of braking window glass everywhere. Lot of noise coming from the fall of the buildings.
When we arrive at the metro station, that is when we really realise, that there was no more electricity. And then we ran toward the tunnel.
Chantale. sorry again for possible grammar, and spell mistakes

Epilouge: The last Peaceful days.
Oh how I remeber the days before that nightmarish war fell on us. The laziness and normalicy of it all seems long since disattached from reality. I fear life will never be normal again, so many lives lost, so many cities swept out of exsistance. I pen these words on paper, scarcely months after the fall of the horrific monsters that laid so much waste to our beloved country. I am certain that many people from this day forth will write of their own experiences, but I feel that my story is just as important as anyone elses, and needs to be told so I can get past it and start my life anew.
It started almost half a year ago, a wonderful early June it was. Warm and green, scarcely a day without sun, almost mocking when compared to the events that were about to unfold. I remember the night of the falling star as well as anyone else that lived through the war. I saw it with my own eyes, that harbinger of death and destruction. I was on the road infront of my modest hovel, a few miles south of the town of Woking. I was chatting to a couple lovely ladies, Ms. Mina Anderson and Raye Hartilly, trying my best to impress them (I was actually quite drunk at the time) Only a month before my fiancee Ellen had left me, and gin was my new love. The girls weren't so much interested in me as they were amused by my drunken advances, but I didn't care.
As we stood there, the most brilliant green falling star illuminated the night sky. Mina gasped, and mentioned to Raye how seeing a falling star was good luck. Good luck, that was something that had been in short supply for me lately, and I wished there to be some truth to that childish notion. After talking for a spell, the girls wished me good hap and rode on their way. I staggered back inside to my bed, and passed out for the evening.
The next day broke early, and after a bite to eat, I proceeded to go about the meanial tasks of farmwork. I plowed until about noontime, when I noticed a large crowd of people heading towards Woking. As the day went on, the crowds got larger, so finally I waylaid one of the members of this large throng of people. He informed me that a metorite had fallen on Horsell Common, and they intended to go see it. Falling stars good luck indeed, tell that to the insurance people I thought. I grinned a bit at my own thoughts and returned to my work. If I had only know the gravity of my situation then, I wouldn't have been so light hearted.
Chapter 2
The sun was slowly sinking into the western sky, and finally the long, hot day was coming to a close. The activity around Woking had drawn so many people past my small farm, that I had thought about renting out my empty bedroom to passing travelers. I had heard about the fallen meteor, but that was about as interesting to me as any affair that didn't directly effect my little sheltered life off the farm. I rarely traveled north into Woking myself, so nothing short of the town being wiped off the face of the planet would get me roused enough to travel up that way if I didn't have better things to do. I yawned and hung my sickle on the barn wall, it was time to head into my little hovel and get something to eat. Just as I was about to puff out the lantern and close the door, I noticed my plow horse Edgar was pacing nervously. I checked around back, making sure it wasn't a stray dog, or perhaps a fox that had him worked up. I saw nothing of the sort so I went back inside. "Your slipping old man." I said as I patted Edgars neck. I walked to the lantern and put it out, and then proceeded to lock up the door. I looked out at the road, no one traveling down it anymore tonight.
A gentle breeze blew through the hedge and a lark stirred and fluttered past, off to find a better place to nest for the evening. It was odd, as if the animals knew something I didn't. I walked into the house and grabbed a flask of my favorite dry gin, and walked back out to my garden to enjoy the warm evening. I took a seat on my plow and had a swig of the gin. I feared I was becoming too fond of alcohol, they all seemed to taste the same anymore. Ever since Ellen left me I've had nothing better to do then drink and work. The breeze started picking up, and it was apparent that there was a storm gathering for tommorow. But it was hard to shake the odd feeling that seemed to hang in the air. The birds were so silent, especially for this time of year, and all that could be heard was the wind blowing through the hay. As I was lost in thought a voice called out to me.
"OI" I turned to face it, there stood Lita Ramierez, an rowdy daughter of an old Spanish immigrant, about two years younger than me, 18 or so.
I looked her over, her face was sooty and her trousers were almost worn through, her reddish brown hair was pulled in a loose tail, and it hung in her face, but even though she dressed boyish, she still had the face of an angel. She took a seat on the grass next to me and smiled.
"My straws looking good so far this year, been too wet as of late to cut it though." Lita took over her father's farm after he died. Old Antonio knew my father, and he was a good fella. He died a couple years after my own dad, and Lita took it hard.
"Yeah, I cut some hay down tonight, but Im afraid its gonna rain tommorow." I eyed the field over and frowned at the thought of loosing all that fresh hay. If nothing else, it made for a pleasant smell that I loved, and it complimented the warm evening nicely.
"A big lot of people are gathering in Woking I hear, they wanna see that fallen Meteor." Said Lita"Im goin up there tommorow I am, wanna see it myself."
I chuckled"Better get up there before the lord starts charging people to see it, I could care less though."
"Oh come on, how often do you get to see something from space, it's probably the only chance you'll get in this lifetime." Lita seemed so enthusiastic, I was actually contemplating going up there with herm but I was going to be too busy.
"It will still be there Sunday I suppose, maybe I'll go up while everyones in mass, no crowds then." I said. Lita smiled and stood up"Well I'm off, I'll stop by tomorrow afternoon, tell ya if it's worth your time."
We said good evening to one another and she was on her way, whistling as she walked. I stood up and walked inside, I took one last whiff of the fresh cut hay before I walked in, but this time there was another smell in the air. A smell of something different, something wicked. It smelled like smoke, after you've cooked meat too long. I disregarded it was someone in the distance cooking, or perhaps a field was on fire. I turned back to my door and walked into the house, ready for a long nights sleep.
Chapter 3
I awoke at about ten or eleven that night, the sound of walking outside my window roused me. I looked out through the shutters and saw soldiers, about ten or twenty, heading north towards Woking, their red jackets and white helmets standing out against the pitch of the night. I quickly pulled on a pair of pants and ran out to the road. Why was the military marching along the lane infront of my house? Had the Germans Invaded? I pondered on grabbing my shotgun and joing the column if that was the case. I saw an officer on horse back and waylaid him.
"Whats all this about" I asked, near panic in my voice. The officer rode on, not paying any mind to me. However, a rifleman laughed and spoke in a loud, arrogant voice.
"Ain't ya heard, men from Mars are up in Woking, were gonna go teach 'em how to behave." He and his comrades laughed, it almost seemed as if they themselves didn't believe what they were telling me.
"Quiet down, all of you" barked the officer, and his men silenced themselves promptly and continued on. I watched them as they headed north, and saw a faint orange glow in the horizon. What could be going on up there? Was that the glow of fire? Maybe the Germans had invaded, and the soldiers were trying to keep there from being a panic. No, that didn't seem right, the Germans would almost have had to of come past my house, and I didn't think that 20 soldiers would be a significant force to put down an invasion from a nation as strong as the Germans. I walked back into my house, shutting and latching the door"Men from Mars" that phrase was haunting my mind. Why would someone even jest about something so absurd.
I sighed and tried to return to sleep, but a thousand theories about what was happening just miles from here kept dwelling forth from the far reaches of my brain. Suddenly, as if a fog had cleared from my mind, I put it all together! The fallen meteor, the smell of burnt meat that was in the air that evening, the troops and the flames on the horizon. The could all be related, what if men from Mars had indeed come, what if they were hostile? Maybe the meteor exploded, and laid waste to Woking? All these ideas would have seemed silly if I had been in my right mind, but even the most absurd ideas seem plausable when your in that haze between sleep and being awake. A breeze came in from the south windows, blowing a warm sheet of air through my small little house. The curtains fluttered in the breeze, and I could hear the wind gently rustling though the hedge and hay. Everything seemed so right, so lovely, yet this terrible, ominous feeling hung stagnant in the breeze. I sighed and tossed restlessly until dawn. About 8 o'clock or so, a rapping at my door woke me from my half sleep state, I opened the door and Lita's smiling face greeted me.
"Morning Kenny" She looked me over and frowned"Well you look like hell, no offense."
I sighed"Well I couldn't very well get any sleep last night, with soldiers marching past my house and all."
"Soldiers you say!'" exlaimed Lita"Get 'aht."
"You mean you didn't hear them yourself" I asked, the girl had to sleep like the dead to not hear that ruckus last night.
"No, are you sure it wasn't a dream" She asked.
"Quite sure, no other reason I'd have my trousers on this early." I groaned.
"Fancy sleeping in the nude do ya" Asked Lita, giggling like a little girl.
"Shaddup, it's none of your business anyhow." Suddenly I thought about the men from Mars, the flames, the smell of burnt meat.
"Listen Lita, don't go up to Woking today, wait until tommorow, I would like to go up there with you." I said hastily.
"Why the sudden change of mind Kenny, for someone so uninterseted you sure seem anxious." She said, a sly grin on her face.
"I just have a bad feeling, I would like to go with you, ya know, in case something happens." I groaned inwardly, I sounded like an over protective lover.
Lita smirked "Okay, okay, a bit protective aren't we"
"Yeah it would seem that way, just wait okay, we'll make a day of it, a nice little Sunday outing." I said, hoping she didn't take this as my desperate attempt at lovemaking.
Lita smiled"All right then you worrisome old toad, I'll wait."
I sighed, happy that she decided to stay out of any mess that might have presented itself. But little did I know at that time, wether we wanted to be or not, we would all soon be in harms way
To Be Continued
