Fantastic! I shall be watching with interest. Please keep us posted on progress. (PS, it's Goble not Gobble ) OOps... Well, -slight- progress made, which may bring me to a screeching halt untill I get some more parts, another davit and bits for the heat ray specifically, specifically, then I need to figure out the "ankle" joint, to go from the foot to the leg, my original idea didn't work out...

I like the look of that! Always been fond of the old Goble drawings, I look forward to seeing your progress and then the finished article!

Splendid stuff Lancer, look forward to seeing it through it's build stages and completion. Like McTodd, I have always liked the look of the Goble machines.

I'll be interesting to see how your model turns out but I must admit I'm not a big fan of this style of tripod - yet. Let's see if your model can do what the drawings couldn't.

Anyone got any pics of the Goble Tripods? I'm not familier with that design. Ta. Andy, the 'Goble' tripods were done by the British artist Warwick Goble. He produced some 60 images for the very first publication of The War Of The Worlds when it was serialised in 1897 in both the Pearsons Magazine and Cosmopolitan. These were infact the very first renditions of the Fighting Machines, but sadly H.G.Wells did not like them as during the writing of one chapter for the story, he has a small 'dig' at an artist who portayed the Fighting Machines as 'stiff' walking machines, very much like a childs doll - clearly this was H.G having a bash at Gobles renditions.

Made a little more progress, got one of the guy wires attached to the legs, this one is made from heavyier brass rod, to take some of the strain, and the grabby claw that the fighting machines apparently use to aim the black smoke tubes, when they're not unlimbered.
Next step is to finish the ankles, and then thread the rest of the guy wires on the legs. When the last davit comes, I'll thread the blocks and tackles, and hang the tentacles (guitar string) I plan to compeltly finish the body before attachign the legs, and may keep the legs permentaly seperate from the body for transport, if I can find a correctly sized ring to mount them to.
