Love it. ;D Great work... the partial transparency works very well. I like the way you have left the 'star-like' light where the heat ray is being emitted.

The Heat Ray has always been a bug bear of mine, but it does appear that an invisible beam is the way to go, so here's how it will look in action. It won't be your typical "Explode everything in sight" Heat Ray. It'll do it's job efficiently, like a huge beam from a magnifying glass. That's the plan anyway, unless anyone has any other thoughts or amendments. Ideas are always welcome and valued.

This looks great!
I think that your heat should have 'wide pattern' but as you say, not an explode everything in sight. I think that it should be able to take out a couple of houses in one it.

Spot on, you've hit the nail on the head. The idea is that the beam will have a variable aperture so, narrow for striking distant objects and wider for nearer and to do maximum damage to a cluster of objects. Not that this will be explained in the film, but the technique will be used.

WOW! That image looks so cool! I applaud your decision to make the Heat Ray exactly how it is, a beam of intense heat. Nothing more, nothing less. So no exploding people and buildings or "turn people into skeleton" effects. We've seen too many of those last year ;D One suggestion: Maybe you could use the glittering green light around the Heat Ray box instead of the bright light you use now. From "At The Window": "A kind of arm carried a complicated metallic case, about which green flashes scintillated, and out of the funnel of this there smoked the Heat-Ray" Keep it up! Great work! Beautiful work, Chris! You really took everyones suggestions to heart and it shows. The Heat Ray looks astounding, but your FM looks great too! Don't hide it with too much FX!

Okay, what's sad is that this looks a WHOLE LOT BETTER than Pendragon's stuff.
Great work Chris! I think an invisible heat ray that basically shoots a heat distortion effect (wobbly) would be the best.

Yes, a sort of intense heat haze, distorting the background would look good. Brilliant!! ;D If it was up to me, I would go with Poyks suggestion on the Heat Ray, that would look awesome

Still working hard and the trailer is almost done so it should be up within the next week. There are some new screencaptures and some post production CG effects too so pop over to www.tmofilms.com/screencap01.htm to have a gander. Here's one of the Tripod scout passing us beyond the trees.

Looking good, Chris. I especially like the pic of the tripod behind the trees - the ever-so-slight bluriness of the tripod gives it a sense of movement, like in real photos of moving objects.

Very nice images indeed! I saw in the pictures people dressed in modern clothes. I guess the film is not set in the 19th century? Johan

But without budget and more time it's not possible for us to do a period set film. Think of it as a cross between The Tripods and War of the Worlds. It's an original story following two friends as they try to survive the invasion that pays homage to most of the elements that make War of the Worlds.

Excellent work, Chris! Wells described the Heat Ray variously as "invisible" and "ghostly". If you really want to be accurate it would be invisible in bright light (sunlight) but a pale beam in dim light or at night. But for dramatic purposes, it might be better to show it dimly at all times.
Just depends on what result you want. If you want to make it apparent what the Tripod is doing, show a dim beam at all times. If you want it to be more mysterious-- a whatintheheck is going on??? audience reaction-- leave it invisible.

Excellent. Wish I had your skill.
I'm not sure if I haven't already realised but is your movie set in 'Victorian Era' or 'Modern Era'. Sorry if this has already been asked I and I haven't seen it.
Looks good no matter where and what time it's set in. Keep up the good work. ;D

Cheers CommandingT, but sadly it's a modern interpretation.
I don't mean that it will be rubbish by any stretch, but we would love to do a Victorian Era film. Costumes aren't a problem, however scenery is and so are actors and extras.
We're having a great time making it though and I'm really looking forward to the finished article.

No matter what era I'm sure it will be an ace job and I'm sure everyone on this site would agree to that. Looking good. ;D
