Hi Guys. Just popping in to show you another FM design I have done. Once again, thoughts and comments always welcome. This time I've gone for a bulkier body to match that of the Martians. Also I have gone for an old rivited plate texture to match that of the Victorian era. Enjoy.

Nice, Very Nice indeed... I like the reflection in the hood amongst other things.
Now the usual question, which software did you use?

Thanks.
I use 3D Max 5 with the 'Textures to the Max' texture pack. It has some great reflective metal textures included.

Where do you get that textures to the max pack? Is it one of those free things or do you have to pay as I've got 3Ds Max 8 and would love to have some decent textures.

I...........er.........aquired it *wink wink*. Not sure how much it costs, or even where you get it.
I just checked, the whole pack is 16MB so I'll upload it to some webspace if you want it.

Not too sure about the feet, like it would look strange walking kind of splayed out. Apart from that, it looks truly brilliant!

Taking onboard what Poyks said about the legs baing splayed out, I've made a few alterations. Added some pistons on the legs to give it a more mechanical feel, and added the all important tenticles for picking up prey. Again thoughts and comments welcome.

That really is looking very good Andy! The tentacles on the bottom pic give a facinating, yet terrifying feel.

I really like the addition of the longer tenticles as well. The addition of the leg pistons adds some cool, mechanical detail and makes the machine more foreboding. If I were to tweak anything, it might be to increase the size of the basket just a bit and perhaps a little lower leg detail. Even if you do anything more to it or not, you got yourself one mean looking tripod and a great model! Your work has gotten really impressive, andy! Keep it up!

Just an after thought, the pistons maybe look a bit terrestrial. Could you perhaps make them a bit more organic or alien? Sorry being pedantic, but this is such a great design, that I feel it's worth working on.

Amazing! The tentacles give it a bit more of a predatory feel, which is nice.
The only comment I have is abuot the basket... maybe it could be a bit larger and a little closer to the main body of the tripod? It looks a bit awkward down there. just a thought... the model will still be lovely even without any further tweaking.

LOL, before i got to the bottom of this thread i was planning on adding something about the basket. Guess Luperis beat me to it. Perhaps you could attach it to the back and make it white. It is described as a "huge mass of white metal, like a fisherman's basket." Other than that, i always pictured the mechnical arm off to one side as opposed to its back, but that's just me. VERY VERY NICE WORK!! ;-)

Okat time for another update. I've tried to go for a more mechanical, organic, alien hybird this time. Moved the smoke launcher to under the machine, and the capture basket to the top. Also made that bigger. Changed the hood/eyes to a more alien feel. Changed the pistons, again to a more alien, unusual design. Added a few more tenticles, and textured these with a more organic texture. Added pistons to the feet and bottom of the legs (not sure about these though) Again comments and thoughts welcome

Cool, very spider-like! Reminds me of those 'sentinel' things from 'The Matrix', and a very extraordinary design you gave to those feet!
